FOUNDATION DEGREES Foundation Degrees, which started life in 2001, are entry-level qualifications which may lead on to degree courses. They are routinely taught in colleges and effectively blur the line between higher and further education – between the academic and the vocational. The Further Education and Training Bill is currently having its second reading in the House of Commons and one of the main changes will be to extend the power to award foundation degrees to colleges. Joining Libby Purves live to discuss foundation degrees are John Widdowson, Principle of New College Durham, and Pam Tatlow, Chief Executive of the Campaign for Mainstream Universities.
