"Men Who Dare - Childcare!"
Can the government's new campaign to recruit male childcare workers counteract the current culture of paranoia towards professionals' physical contact with young children?

MALE CHILDCARE WORKERS

To discuss the issues are Dr Heather Piper of the Institute of Education at Manchester Metropolitan University and Clive Norbury, a childcare worker in Cheshire.

PERFORMANCE VARIATIONS
In 2000 the Organisation for Economic Growth and Development published a study which found that variation in performance within schools is four times greater than that between schools.听 The National College for School Leadership (NCSL)听has set up a project to tackle these variations in performance.听 Libby Purves is joined by Ray Tarleton, National Co-Ordinator of the NCSL's Leadership Network and Angela Briggs, Headteacher of Thomas Sumpter School in Scunthorpe, which has been taking part in the project.

TESTING IN ITALY
Last year in Italy a test in science, maths and Italian, was piloted in selected schools for pupils aged six, eight and 11.听 This year the test is compulsory for all pupils.听 Some parents and teachers are strongly objecting to it.听 Libby Purves asks David Willey, the 成人快手 correspondent in Rome why the new test has come under such criticism.
