Grounded

I have done a very very bad thing. I am not going to go into details but, for anyone who regularly reads the Luing blogs, it won't take much to put 2 and 2 together. The one thing I will say is it doesn't involve sheep.
Suffice to say it nearly caused a divorce in our house. Dad was all for sending me back to the Argyll Animal Aid. Mum was looking on the internet for dog training schools - she nearly booked me into one but Dad said it was too expensive. It would be cheaper to just send me back. I really have put them to the test this time. So, first of all a plea - does anyone out there know of a dog trainer in the Oban locality that can make me behave and listen to what my Mum and Dad say. I really do like living here with them and don't want to go back to the kennels, hoping every day that someone will come and rescue me again.
Other than being a very bad boy I have had a good couple of weeks. Mum was away in Ireland again and then brought Grandma and Auntie back from Lancashire for the weekend. Auntie was sleeping on the settee so we had a constant battle of wits as to who would get the most space and the duvet for the night. I loved wakening her up by licking her ears in the morning - I think she really appreciated that.
We got some lovely chocolate cake delivered by Paddy and Fingal's humans - didn't last long in our house. Don't think Grandma and Auntie even managed to taste a bit.
We also had some new youngsters around. There is a new resident puppy called Lilly who lives in my village - she is very nervous when she sees me but she is really lovely and cute. We also had a visiting lab puppy called Davy - I think he would be great fun to run around with. Hopefully he will be back up to visit us again soon.
Mum says I have to say hello to her friends in Ireland who have been looking at the blog - so hello to Katherine, Matt and Ed - do you want me to come over to work with Mum one time? I'd love to see you all!
Just a short blog today as I really am still ashamed about my behaviour. In fact, I did consider giving up all together but thought I would give it one more shot.

Getting better
Posted: Thursday, 19 April 2007 |
After my recent misdemeanours I have to report that I am behaving myself better. This week I have been to Dad's work by boat which was great fun. Dad has this romantic notion that he can travel to and from jobs by boat. The fact that it takes longer to get there is neither here nor there. I think Dad has water running through his veins instead of blood - he lived on a canal barge as a tiny tot and has been building/repairing boats ever since he could hit a nail straight. Whenever we go anywhere we always have to go where there is water. In fact my mum and dad used to live on their boat (before my time). Mum is just glad he wasn't interested in railways or she would probably be living up a siding my now!
Was fed up yesterday when Dad didn't take me to work. This is the drawback of having her at home - he leaves me here. She did take me for a walk to the shop which was good. In fact she also bought me a new ball from there the other day so I suppose she is not all bad.
I have also been doing some training with my Mum. I sit in one spot, let her wander on a bit and then run to her when she calls me. She is coping quite well with the training so far - she hasn't run off, tripped up or fallen off the cliff. I think she has a little bit to go yet but she seems to be improving day by day. It is difficult to get these humans to do just what you want them to but, with a bit of perseverance, you can really make them seem almost dog-like. Of course they will never have our intellect or understanding, but I swear they could almost bark to me sometimes. The one worry I have is that they say humans begin to look like their dogs!
Have just been on a lovely long walk with Mum to Ardinamir over on the other side of the island. She has a bit of a sore back and got some new pills from the doc this week so I think she thought it might do her good to go for a walk. It is a gorgeous day and we had a great time. Just one problem - she had the ipod plugged in and began to sing out loud - not a pretty noise. Just because there is no-one about doesn't mean that offensive sounds can be made. Has she not heard the saying "if a tree falls in a forest, but nobody hears it, does it make a noise?" The same could apply to the ipod "if a human howls along to music only they can hear, shouldn't they be certified?" - I await your comments.
Anyway, managed to jump in every ditch where there was any water or mud and had a good time getting messed up. Hopefully will have more adventures to tell you about soon.

Visitors
Posted: Friday, 27 April 2007 |
We have had visitors this week. My mum's friend, Steff, came up to stay for a few days and brought her cocker spaniel, Jenny, with her. What a bossy-boots she was. She saunters into MY house and steals MY bone and plays with MY toys and then snaps at me if I so much as look at her. I don't know what she imagined I was going to do to her but she should be so lucky! Anyway she ruled the roost completely. I was a very well behaved dog and just let her get on with it - you see I can be good when I want to be!
They arrived Sunday and on Monday we went for a walk in the rain. It absolutely poured down and we all got really wet (which was great fun). Jenny had to stay on her lead as her Mum didn't trust her not to run away. I got to splash in all the puddles and the ditches and generally show off! Jenny and I had a bit of an argument over some crisps - she definitely didn't want me to get anything.
The next day the weather was a bit better and I got to go for a paddle in the sea. I love chasing stones into the sea when Mum throws them for me. I was almost as wet as Monday! Jenny tried to put a paw into the sea but she wimped out - these towny dogs!
Wednesday was a walk over to Ardinamir. It was lovely and sunny. We had seen some tourists on the way from home who had two doggie friends with them. The humans were a bit over-protective and lifted up one of the dogs. As if I was going to eat a fellow dog - honestly. Anyway, when we were on the road to Ardinamir I spotted these people having a rest on the hill and so I thought I would make friends. They didn't seem to appreciate that I bounded through bogs to get to them. The male human kept saying 'go away' which, as you all know, means hang around here and enjoy our company! So I did. Eventually I gave in to Mum shouting for me and bounded back towards them through as much water and mud as I could find - great stuff. And then.... just when I thought the walk was going to become dull... a hare jumped out in front of me so I went chasing off after that. Didn't catch it (didn't want to actually as now I am on my best behaviour!). Finally came back to Mum, Steff and Jenny and they put me on the lead, but I was a bit cream-crackered after all the running.
Then yesterday, bliss, Jenny finally went home - I can stretch out on the couch again, play with my toys, eat my dinner when I want, great stuff! It was really nice to have our visitors but Jenny needs to learn that I am king of the castle around here. Today it is a glorious day - Mum and me have just been for a stroll to the shop. She got an ice-cream and let me finish it off which was lovely. I have had a few paddles along the way home and thought I would just update my blog whilst she is downstairs having her dinner. Don't know where my dad is these days - he goes out every morning saying what a great time he is having being dog-free. I am sure Mum will be on her travels again soon and I can be with him again - I miss him!
Catch up with you all soon!

Thought I would put on some recent photos for all my fans out there!
