Getting better

After my recent misdemeanours I have to report that I am behaving myself better. This week I have been to Dad's work by boat which was great fun. Dad has this romantic notion that he can travel to and from jobs by boat. The fact that it takes longer to get there is neither here nor there. I think Dad has water running through his veins instead of blood - he lived on a canal barge as a tiny tot and has been building/repairing boats ever since he could hit a nail straight. Whenever we go anywhere we always have to go where there is water. In fact my mum and dad used to live on their boat (before my time). Mum is just glad he wasn't interested in railways or she would probably be living up a siding my now!

Was fed up yesterday when Dad didn't take me to work. This is the drawback of having her at home - he leaves me here. She did take me for a walk to the shop which was good. In fact she also bought me a new ball from there the other day so I suppose she is not all bad.

I have also been doing some training with my Mum. I sit in one spot, let her wander on a bit and then run to her when she calls me. She is coping quite well with the training so far - she hasn't run off, tripped up or fallen off the cliff. I think she has a little bit to go yet but she seems to be improving day by day. It is difficult to get these humans to do just what you want them to but, with a bit of perseverance, you can really make them seem almost dog-like. Of course they will never have our intellect or understanding, but I swear they could almost bark to me sometimes. The one worry I have is that they say humans begin to look like their dogs!

Have just been on a lovely long walk with Mum to Ardinamir over on the other side of the island. She has a bit of a sore back and got some new pills from the doc this week so I think she thought it might do her good to go for a walk. It is a gorgeous day and we had a great time. Just one problem - she had the ipod plugged in and began to sing out loud - not a pretty noise. Just because there is no-one about doesn't mean that offensive sounds can be made. Has she not heard the saying "if a tree falls in a forest, but nobody hears it, does it make a noise?" The same could apply to the ipod "if a human howls along to music only they can hear, shouldn't they be certified?" - I await your comments.

Anyway, managed to jump in every ditch where there was any water or mud and had a good time getting messed up. Hopefully will have more adventures to tell you about soon.

carol from happyyourbehaving

Coco, glad to hear you are on the road to salvation! Keep up the excellent work. PS I agree with Carol, please send a photo.

Jill from EK

I have just managed to turn on the pc whilst no one is looking and just wanted to say that I agree with your comments anbout how easy it is to teach humans to do exactly what you want, I only have to drop my bottom lip and look dejected and I get a biscuit. Don't you agree that the muddiest ditches are the best to lie in on a hot day ? Only prob is then you get put in the shower YUK!!!

Hooch c/o Barebraes from Shapinsay

...and what Hooch doesn't mention and no wonder, are the very many unmentionable things in which d.o.g.s like to roll. And mud doesn't come near it! Smelly great things....

Hi Coco, I saw you yesterday, you have been doing very good boy with your mum. I missed you so much, so I was barking loud at my mum's car. oh dear. My mum was not happy.... sorry... anyway, See you soon and play with me.

Rusty from Seabank

Hi Coco, hope you are having a fun spring. Remember: don't go digging up the whole vegetable/flower garden, just part of it.

mjc from NM,USA

Coco will soon have someone new to come to see him, we will have new little arrival to the family, who is very cute with a waggy tail called Bonnie!

Aunty from Lancashire

I like the idea of a seperate name for the tail....wonder what the rest of the cute new arrival is called. It's nice that d.o.g.s have their own blog where they can all talk to one another. It illustrates their pack nature.

Flying Cat from Cheshire Grin

Coco and Bonnie: in due course, perhaps Sonny?

mjc from NM,USA

Unfortunately, mjc, I am not as much of a dog as I once was. They took me to the vets in Oban! Which is just as well because there would have been lots of little Coco's here by now I am sure!!!

Coco from On the settee

oh your poor little dog,but i'm sure you'll be a lot better behaved and maybe start to obey orders, or wullie sends his lovexxx

carol from on the mend

The vets on the islands must be doing a heck of a business snipping everything on sight. Very soon hounds and cats will disappear from the islands, giving Hermit yet another opportunity to devise a fascinating yet unsettling story. Are there many draught horses on the islands, Coco? Just curious.

mjc from NM,USA

And. maybe more importantly, is there anything at all on draught on Luing Coco? Only cans and bottles on North Ronaldsay...

Flying Cat from gazing into an empty glass

who or what is next mjc? dare i ask??

carol from getting ready for trip to cb's

Carol: the idea is to keep several objects in the air. One balloon fizzles out, pop a new one up. You should know. # what's cb?

mjc from NM,USA

MJC. what a question!! whats cb? cb is CROFTERBILL!

carol from the usual place

Carol, draught horses: I was secretly worried that the island vets may have extended/were planning to extend their snipping spree to larger animals, first quadrupeds, then of course bipeds. I would then have had to plan my holidays to the islands for when the vets take their holidays (with carry on luggage only, if they learn from others' experiences) perhaps on Flybe to Tunisia, or some such arid locations.

mjc from NM,USA

mjc: ha ha ha!!

carol from in the usual place

Alas my behaviour is in spite of having been 'done' two years ago - just think what I might have been like if they hadn't made me have it done!

Coco from Had the snip

dear coco, i really feel sad for you: imagine going through that twice- i don't think the old dear here would do that to me, or would she???

"oor wullie" from being surprised
