Isle of Lunga Lunga (from the Norse, isle of the longships) lies to the north of Jura and Scarba, west of Luing. It has been described as 'an untidy island', all bumps and hillocks and heather. It is just over one mile long and about one mile wide at most, and is another of the 'slate' islands As if announcing this terrain the water between Scarba and Lunga can run as fast as the Corryvreckan. When the tide is at full flood the Bealach a' Choin Ghlais (Pass of the Grey Dogs) runs at two streaming torrents. The island has no public ferry service but access is available via the owner Colin MacDougall for self-accommodation holidays. Rubha Fiola (a northerly island) is run as an adventure centre and the whole area is a favourite with sea canoeists.
