The ongoing saga of broadband & a handy link....

Hi Y'all,
It's Duncan, sometime of Livvy now (temporarily) of Lunga here ; ) Sorry about the daft nom-de-plume, I registered it last week after having had a couple of beers then spent the rest of the week trying to get rid of it, looks like I'm stuck with it for the time being, not that I intend to blog under false pretences as this is very much a one off
The reason why I'm posting is that I emailed Mike at IBHQ last week with a link for a handy site regarding Broadband, he emailed back saying post it yourself, so here I am. The site has a lot of handy info, ISP comparisons, a speed checker but probably most importantly an Exchange activation list. This list is more up to date than is currently available from the BT Broadband website (Mike, all the info about the various exchanges on Arran is in here). For instance, If any body living in Tobermory is reading this post/blog and you are paying a monthly subscription for dial-up get your order in now as your exchange goes live next month. A lot of the broadband deals are available for either the same price as dial up or a 拢1 or two more plus you get your phoneline back for voicecalls. This is not a sales pitch, I have lived with Broadband for the for the last two years now and give up TV first before I had to give up broadband, sad? you bet!
I've read about the problems about the radio-links for broadband on Islay. I spoke to a colleague in work last week who said the contractors who installing the exchange equipment are a few weeks ahead of schedule. So, what this means is that they will probably turn up on somewhere like Coll, do the work, then weeks later the Collachs will still be waiting on broadband as the links to the rest of the broadband network still need to be connected & commissioned. I think that is why places like Coll have been given an activation date at years end even though the exchange installation will probably take place early November.
Anyway, I'm even boring myself now so I'll go now, one last paragraph though
The reason I picked Lunga was because I passed within 10 metres of it on one of those sea-safari's last month. I would have posted a couple of pictures of my new "home" but unfortunately my hard drive went down three weeks ago and I lost them - doh! I did think about posting from Mull having had a couple of beers in the Mishnish and a fish supper from the van on the pier at Tobermory this year, then again there's Eileach an Naoimh in the Garvellachs but I don't think I would manage to squeeze into one of the beehive cells!
