The
Gate House at the entrance to Croxteth Park |
The
Gate House marks the entrance to Croxeth Park.
On
the walls of the Gate House there is an ‘s’ and a coat of
arms, which stands for Lord Sefton.
There
is a bay window that enabled the Gate keeper to see and
hear the horses or someone coming.
On
the gates of Croxteth park, there are lions holding a flag
with the Molyneaux cross on it.
The
gatehouse belonged to Lord Sefton, however the Molyneaux
family built it.
It
was built on the Molyneaux site.
It
was made from sandstone.
It has a gargoyle on the drain pipe which drained the water
from the roof.
The
man who lived in the gate house opened and closed the gates
(which was a very important job)
