Finding Outer Hebrides information online

When searching Google, useful local stuff can often be behind hundreds or thousands of other, less relevant, results. We've modified a "widget" to allow people to search a subset of the Google index. Find it here:
When using this search facility, you are searching only across a number of Outer Hebrides websites e.g. the Comhairle, several community websites, several Outer Hebrides voluntary organisations, and various Outer Hebrides cultural and musical societies. This should result in a smaller, but more relevant and local, set of results.
Try it on e.g. the name of your community, your local politician or something else, well, local!
In addition, the links at the bottom currently point to:
- the Comhairles browsable list of Outer Hebrides websites
- an auto-search for blogs that contain the phrases "Outer Hebrides" or "Western Isles"
Hope you find it useful.

Stating the obvious; the Guardian leader on Saturday was entitled "In praise of Scottish islands".
It concludes: "...No island can be singled out as the best: but Berneray, near North Uist, with its white-sand beach and simple thatched hostel by the sea, surely cannot be beaten as a place to sample island life".
Find it here:

Olive Oil: fit for Hebrideans?

Here on Berneray, the main topic of conversation for the last week has been ... do you use Olive Oil?
Seriously.
It came up in a meeting where one resident expressed surprise that this particular product was used by anyone. This was rebuffed by several olive oil users.
Since the "Battle of the Olive Oil", several more residents have come out of the woodwork to claim that they don't use olive oil or similar products.
Do you use it? Do many people in your community use it? What do you/others in the Outer Hebrides use it for? Why do you think some Berneray folk have got so hot under the collar about Olive Oil?
