Isle of Raasay

Raasay lies to the northeast of Skye, and is about 14 miles long and 4 miles wide. The name "Raasay" is of Norse origin meaning Isle of the (Roe) or Red Deer. The island's most distinct feature is the unique flat-topped peak known as Dun Caan. It's a place of considerable beauty and a (sadly not unique) history of disputed and mismanaged ownership down the years.

As the island's most famous son put it:

"No words can be put on beauty ,
no picture words or poem made for it."
