I just realised I was going to see Horslips tonight and I forgot all about it! Oh well, that'll probably not come round again.

Anyway, I didn't much fancy last night's theme because although I knew most of the obvious ones I couldn't be bothered requesting them, so I started to look for alternatives that I'd never heard. I found 'Beans On Toast'.

Tonight, I thought all the standing songs I know are quite tired, so I've done the same - another bundle of revelations.

I'm starting to not be bothered if my requests get played, the fun is finding 'on theme' tracks I've never heard before.

I Fancy Laura Marling - Beans On Toast - from 'Standing On A Chair' this is amusing and playable on radio, some the other stuff is hilarious, but unplayable on GIO

Excellent suggestion Scotch - Huge 2nd - I've been petitioning for the 12" version for ages - it is one of the most beautiful recordings I've ever heard - there's a magnificent oboe solo in the middle - quite special - but every time they play 'Say Hello Wave Goodbye' on GIO they play some crap disjointed version - and it sounds as though Marc can't sing.

Yep, if you like Otis Redding,(or soul music generally) you will be amazed as to how it is you've never heard of James Carr before.I was: I kept thinking' how come I've got to the age I am and I've never heard this?'

It's like that other enduring mystery - Why weren't Love & Money massive? I've been thinking about that a lot since Sunday evening.I don't completely get it - but I know it must be something to do with personalities - because everything else is fine.James Carr was a troubled guy with brilliant vice and amazing talent.

My request above for Spencer Davis is a cover (an excellent one)of the Garth Brooks classic.

But I'd really lie to hear Scotch's Soft Cell request - 12" version, though, it's really somethin'. Go On Bryan!
