Spring clean songs...

Bryan Burnett | 20:01 UK time, Monday, 30 April 2012

There was not a spare seat to be had on our train theme tonight and as always I loved the range of tunes that were suggested. Eels was great but it was good to include something like Eruption for out and out fun. It's a theme we did only last year but it seems there's such an appetite for railroad music and no shortage of good tunes.

Spring cleaning is on the agenda for many folk so tomorrow evening I will be asking you to add one more item to your list of chores. If you've been spring cleaning your music collection then what gems turned up that you'd forgotten about?
I know every time I try to sit down and weed out my CDs to make more room then I spend the day sitting on the floor listening again to albums that have slipped through the net in years gone by.

Let me know about the records you blew the dust off and rediscovered...

Spring cleaning? Does he mean my April shower?

  • Comment number 2.

I came upon a copy of the Rolling Stones' Voodoo Lounge whilst dusting my sideboard. Now I hate spring cleaning so, too cheer myself up, I read the instructions on how to use the CD player (it's been so long.....) and then slipped the disc into the machine.

Unfortunately, someone had managed to drip a blob of candle wax over my favourite track so I gave up on this method and looked the album up on ayechoons.

New Faces please! It fair gets rid of cobwebs

Gaie, following on from #103 on the previous blog, who has a copy of the jotter? Can someone mail me? I'd like to remind myself of all those great A-Z suggestions made a couple of years ago

  • Comment number 4.

    Two suggestions:
Calling my children home - Emmylou Harris (from Spyboy)
Her I go again - Whitesnake (from Best of.........)

Both found when cleaning the car this weekend.

When moving house a number of years ago I discovered a wonderful box set which included 'A Night At The Opera' and 'A Day At The Races'. So from the same wonderful band can I request

"If they're gonny repeat themes don't repeat the music, it's no difficult"

Exactly Al. If they're gonna insist on repeats then print a "Last Time Out List".
I've been hammerin on about this for ages. If they did, it would make the "Aw naw, no again" into a challenge or at least a "in wi chance this time".
I reckon a third of the playlist tonight were on the last two train nights.

Good grief Adam, the Snr Producer has better things to do!

  • Comment number 8.

Dross I've dug oot... can I get back to you all on this one?

Just a bit less obvious would be nice, the guys n gals have been coming up with some great shouts but invariably the 'top 3 pop single' gets played.
What's the point of having a theme then?

I'm no moanin' any mair, guess you just need to keep on truckin.

    Aff tae bed,

    Hello Bryan, Blogotariat.....

K's CHOICE 's 'Almost happy' is the album I am rediscovering just now. Full of melancholy songs and really beautiful. One of my favorite tracks on this CD is ' Always everywhere' and with Mothers day coming soon I think it can perhaps make it on air this evening. 'Shadowman' is the song I like best on this album with Gert BETTENS (lead vocals); Now if you want something more lively and uplifting then I suggest 'Somewhere'.

    Friendly greetings to all.

    :)

    Chris.

Here is another song featuring on K's CHOICE' s 'Almost happy' [not 'Paradise in me_ wrong sleeve cover]

Another very good song. I would very much like to hear Amy MAC DONALD cover it.

I picked a random CD from the collection the other week to play in the car. I'd forgotten how good it is so I would like to share:

The Adventures - "One Step From Heaven" from "The Sea of Love"

You have now climbed the foothills of enthusiasm to reach the plateau of disillusion where the bloggers wait eternally for the "Get A Life" helicopter.

  • Comment number 20.

I am struggling a wee bit to contribute to the theme as the following status exists in my CD collection (and lp's):

All CD's and LP's are in Alpabetical order by Artisst and within that sub group by year of release. The only difficulty this gives is, for example, should Del Amitri be filed under D or A. I also worry about, for example, Justin Currie where I have to fight the temptation to file him next to Del Amitri.

Turning to the car. This has a dedicated ipod and two SD card slots. So unless I list a SD card.....

Having said all of that I managed to trap two mice in the shed this weekend:

Bruce Springsteen - Trapped, great Jimmy Cliff cover

I cut the grass and tidied the edging etc:

Van Morrison - In The Garden (best Van song ever)

    I cleaned the windows:

    Van Morrison - Cleaning Windows

    My mind needs cleaned up:

    Anything by Beyonce

I rummaged in a cupboard and came up with a cassette tape. I'm sure, GIO, you could find the digital equivalent if you tried, to the delight of all the hitherto unsatisfied Jeff Healey fans

  • Comment number 31.

I was cleaning out my Mum's garage recently and to my amazement found a large collection of cassettes that I'd obviously left behind when I moved out. Unfortunately the majority of them were unplayable as they had got damp. To compensate for this immense disappointment please play:

Captain Beefheart - "My Head Is My Only House Unless It Rains"

#30 @ya Scotch Ooops! 'La fête des mères' (Mother's day) this year is on June 3rd !!!!

    That would explain it!

  • Comment number 37.

Wrong answer, mon ami. Every day is Mothers' Day.

  • Comment number 38.

Must say, I'm with the blog matriarch, our Norrie, in keeping everything pretty neatly filed, though I'm not hung up on chronological order. I almost never fling any music out.

I listen to everything on 'shuffle' and am often taken by surprise when something I haven't heard for years turns up in the car whilst driving around on business (even more surprised when something I've never heard turns up).

Here's four from the recent past:

    Maggies's Farm - Solomon Burke

    Tomorrow Night - Atomic Rooster

Pouring Water On A Drowning Man - James Carr

So It Goes - Nick Lowe

    and the Northern Soul classic

I'll Keep Holding On - The Marvellettes

golly, just unearthed another tape, a home-made one from an lp that I remembered to give back

Once There Was a Time - Ten Years After

I'll throw these in the bin and leave the rest for the next time we have this theme, next week.

I can't believe it! I've been searching for years for my old copy of Harry Nilsson's Sandman but had given up hope of ever finding it!

There I was, throwing bleach onto the cobwebs under the bunker when I spied what I thought was a bit of a postcard. Taking care to wear eye protection & my trusty rubber gloves, I gently pulled out an LP sleeve and guess what????

The domestos had burned right through the vinyl.
