Sunday's Outing

Well you will all be pleased to know and can sleep soundly at night to know I have caught up with the housework and demolished iron mountain!

On Sunday afternoon we decided to go up to Calliach Point which is near Calgary - like Mountainman, I dont like crowds either - considering I am a Londoner born and bred and a true Cockney (honest I have the birth certificate to prove it!) I dont like towns, being closed in - the more remote the better - my mother (God rest her soul) thought she had dropped me on my head - how can you not like London????? No for me thank you!

Anyway - Santa hasnt called yet so still noddy camera with a couple of snaps.

Looking towards Ardnamurchan - from this height you could see the gannets plunging into the sea and diving through until they came out the other side - the sea is so clear!

Looking towards Coll/Tiree/Treshnishes - see that weather approaching - just made it back to the car before the rain came down - proving it does rain here and not always blue sky and sunshine!

Towards the Mainland

My daughter insisted this one goes in just because it made her laugh - Pepper the Cat having 40 winks!

Off to make a pot of steaming soup - cant see hand in front of me outside - rain is sweeping past - is that a sheep just gone by??

Wanted! For Murder!

Wanted for the murder of two chaffinches! If you see this creature do not approach - she has claws that are sharpened nightly on a tree trunk and there are human scars to prove it too - her teeth are like Dracula's - ready to sink into anything that looks tasty! Has she damaged the vole population so much that she has now turned to birds?? Did they not find the remains of a cat in the nest of a sea eagle???

It's also been the Mull Mod this week and Hannah's school won the "Action Song" class which was fantastic! Weather has been damp to say the least - not ventured too far - the ususal walk with the dog along Glenforsa beach produced an otter and lots of wading birds but couldnt identify as too far away and too wet for binoculars!

Its them again!

Just been to Tob for the shopping - "don't forget treats!"says him off earning an honest crust! The question is "what is a treat?" everyone has something different - is it a big fat bar of chocolate - always!! is a something from the Co-0p reduced counter like an out of date packet of ham? or is stopping on the way home at Salen Bay looking out over the Sound - watching an otter playing, the oyster catchers doing their thing and pinching myself how lucky I am to be here - and then to arrive home to unpack the boot and find these two starring at you - can I have a bar of chocolate too?? not dark just milk or white will do thank you
PS - Pepper not been seen since early this morning - what will she bring home??

That Dilema again!

The best laid plans etc....
Having been to Oban yesterday and stocked up the goodie cupboard (don't ask!) today was going to be the "H" day! Yes, housework time so the weekend would be free for me to enjoy and celebrate my brithday (21+VAT at a high rate!!)

It was raining quite hard as I took Hannah to school but he who earns a honest crust said as he was going out the door "I would go out today its going to be nice- you don't know when the next sunny day will be!". Oh now what should I do? all set with the polish and duster - but now the sky was blue and the sun was shining - after all of 10 seconds pondering - that familiar phrase returned "oh stuff it!" So with a flask of tea and some sarnies off I went. There is a little circular tour that goes past Craignure, through Glen More down to Pennyghael then comes back via Tiroran, past Gribun Cliffs, round Loch Na Keal and back to Salen. If you were a Martian and just landed you could tell it was Autumn - the colours are stunning and my noddy camera (more hints!) just could not cope with them. I took a few snaps but they don't do the scenery justice. Where is David Bailey when you need him. Returned home, in time for school pick up - now where did I put that duster??

From Pennyghael looking towards Loch Scridain

Pennyghael looking towards the Burg or Wilderness as its known!

Peaks in Glen More

You can't see me can you??

Have you seen my Mum?

Loch Beg in the sunshine - the sea was truly sparkling!

Still Loch Beg and my car mirror!

Loch Beg again - just beautiful

How quickly the weather changes! That is Staffa you can just make out - about 2 minutes after taking that picture the heavens opened and it absolutely poured down - just as I was going round Gribun rocks which if anyone knows is scarey at the best of times - the rain was almost horizontal!

It's all free!

The last couple of days have been glorious here - clear blue skies and warm too though we did have our first frost night before last. I've been a bit off salts last couple of days - not sure if brewing some disease and pestulance but as always, I ignore it and hope it will go away. I decided I would go to Loch Frisa - its really beautiful and as there is no road nearby it can be really quiet - its a great spot for seeing the Sea Eagles, Golden Eagles, Hen Harriers and things I dont know the names of!

I went through the Glen Aros to Dervaig which is the long way round but very scenic - the colours are stunning at the moment - since moving here I have become so much more conscious of the colours around - you just cant miss it here - my senses have certainly sharpened and I notice more of the smaller things like the many varieties of butterflies and moths.

Anyway - just before entering Dervaig, something caught my eye - it was a stag with a huge set of antlers and his harem of about 10 hinds - he was roaring like a good 'un - great to see though. On to Loch Frisa - as I had my old geriatric arthritic springer with me - and the need to get back to pick Hannah up from school - just walked a couple of miles - enough for the view to take my breath away as ever. Just all alone with your own heartbeat and thoughts and the beauty all around - it never ceases to amaze me.

Quick cup of tea and a sandwich and back home.

Some pics for you - the new camera is great but I'm having trouble getting the picture size below 200k - I've got it on the lowest setting but they are coming out at about 250'ish - so can only show you the couple that were below 200 - does anyone have any suggestions - is there a setting I am missing??
