re the review of the jack bruce concert........opinions ranged from 'interesting' to 'bleeding ears'.....which only reinforced my quest to seek out cheap (free) live music.......ageing rock divo's should stay at home........the only concert i've wanted to go to recently was katie perry but somebody in the house that did go wouldave been black affronted.
so here is my musical hypothesis...............pop songs break down into two categories...........

katie perry songs......these are songs which sound fantastic but you're not really meant to admit you like them (guilty m'lod)

jack bruce songs.......these are songs that sound like rubbish but you say are brilliant just because its jack bruce (guilty of owning 1 jack bruce album)

and that brings me on to fife.......i love st. andrews because its where i had my first holiday....even travelling the 10 miles to get there meant a change of trains.
there are many places in fife i don't know.....they exist in some mythical mist.....cowdenbeath, lochgelly, falkland......
fife is also responsible for giving us one of the greatest lines in pop history from a man i would definitely go and see live.......
'it started up in fife and ended up in tears'.......now jack bruce never ever wrote a line as funny and as perceptively wicked as that.....

Well, I'm glad Rob Adams from The Herald reviewed the Jack Bruce gig, otherwise I'd have thought I'd been at a different concert than Thing Fish - but in reality, I suspect the issue is differing expectations - there are as many variants of 'Jack' as there are musical genres.The world class jazz bassist is only one. Any who retreated to the bar had plainly come to hear about five tunes played in a particular way from 40 years ago... if they'd hung about, they'd have heard them.There were plenty of us there happy to hear different things from a 50 year career... but no matter.I knew the material, I was enthralled. I've seen Jack many times, but, apart form the 成人快手2 Big Band gig, this was my favourite because it was so unlikely.I heard songs performed I'd never expected to hear and which are personal favourites and heard them performed in different arrangements.

The Herald gave it 4 stars but only reviewed the first hour - the 2nd hour was awesome (spoilt only by some poor sound control) with the entire cast , Bruce, Lau and the chamber orchestra making their way through glorious versions of 'Tickets To Waterfalls' and 'White Room' etc. Standing ovation and a massive encore did not suggest to me the audience had bleeding ears. No one is suggesting the voice of a seventy year old man is what it was in his 20's but I've heard much worse from people in their twenties.

My ticket cost 拢20:00 for two hours of music I enjoy: no problemo.

I used to listen to this a lot as the consequences of a failing marriage started to play out with ever more damaging disagreements; I love the opening line " I Live On A Battlefield". Like other Ross song treatments, she manages convey good fun from hideous lyrics and story lines ( The Happening, Love Child etc) and this is every bit as good. Check it out Bryan.
