So far we've auditioned a whole load of guitarists but not picked one - have abandoned the idea of having a bass player in favour of a string section - in which we better pick a cellist because it can substitute for bass ( a bit)...

You're right. The new year has come in with the farcical whimper of yet another retreaded theme which has already broken down. Pick a string section? I'd have more fun with the toothache.

C'mon, get real - which one of you would be happy when the ultimate guitarist was chosen and it wasn't your own personal favourite?

I thought of the 3 'guitar' programmes we've had recently this was much better than the others. I'd like to see what overlaps there were, mind, and throw them out in favour of the doggedly and bewilderingly discounted Joe Bonamassa, Bert Jansch and Richard Thompson. But there more genuine candidates IMHO than in the previous programmes.

A wee suggestion re themes - why don't they put up a blog page exclusively for theme suggestions on which we can put down ideas when they occur. A virtual jotter.

If God Did Give Me A Choice - The Leisure Society utterly brilliant, not religious, anthemic - clever song (inevitably) about the inability to walk away from being involved in the music/songwriting business.

Strings = the brilliant Nitin Sawhney - 成人快手lands a truly gifted musician and arranger, can turn his hand to anything - truly stunning. 成人快手lands is 6:00 - though the soulful Broken Skin or Sunset would be good alternatives.
