The Daughter and I will be at my sister's for Christmas Day. During the show Frances and I will no doubt be attempting to co-ordinate the lunch we've been planning for ages, which will end up being absolutely wonderful and everyone else will think we just rustled it up from thin air as if by magic!

I'm very grateful she and her family invite me there. My niece Holly was in China last Christmas, as part of her University studies, and she's been away at Leeds Uni all year too so it'll be lovely to share Christmas Day with her again this year.

Frances loves 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' by Aimee Mann...or anything Christmassy by her reallly. That would help cheer us up when we realise there's not enough oven space for all the food...we've not put the tatties on early enough!...and if it's like last year...where the hell's the goose fat gone?

I wish all the GIO-ers a very Happy Christmas...even that old misery guts Christmas Party Pooper Scotch...who I note @ #1 seems to be mellowing... ;o) Love & kisses etc.

...and spare a thought for The Daughter who will be going off later in the day to have a second Christmas Dinner with her Dad and Grandma...real Vicar of Dibley stuff! lol

Highlights for me will be the old man's 80th birthday ceilidh and the get together with my kids and their partners at some point through the week.

Even though the kids are all growed up they still insist every present gets wrapped daddy style with frayed edges , ends that don't meet with the white bits showin and hunners of seloptape hawdin it all the gither. All growed up but always weans at Christmas.

There are very few records about Xmas that make much impression - but this one really does do it for me... Getting Ready For Xmas Day - Paul Simon ( good show opener)

I'd like to thank Bryan, Babs and the team for another year of great entertainment and endless discoveries. I even got The Leisure Society played before the year was out.

A year of great musical highlights: one of these was the k d lang gig at the Armadillo - for me the highlight was Perfect Word - k d lang. Technically not a Xmas record, but a record longing for reconcilliation, peace and harmony (of which there is a great deal, between that etherial voice and the rising steel guitars) and therefore, it qualifies.Amazing.Treat yourself, Babs, and stick this on.

Breakfast at Chateau Hannah will see our united families - my kids coming from all over the place, Smiffy, the twins and her Dad - before my lot go off later to their Mum's for dinner.

A mixed family champagne breakfast might not seem like much, but we really are a family now - it may be our greatest achievement and an absolute joy on Xmas morning. I knew we were a couple when Julia's ex started referring to us as 'youse' and that we'd become a family when my ex and her family sent us congratulations cards for our recent enagagement.

I shall be raising my glass to my blogging peers and everyone on the GIO team on Xmas morning. Youse are a terrific bunch and i'm privileged to be a member fo this blogotariat.

Ah the adverts! I love the ones where they spend absolute fortunes on a TV ad campaign, everyone remembers the ADS and not many remember what is actually being advertised.

So a couple of quiz questions and nae cheatin...
1) A series of 'There may be trouble ahead' TV ads were once shown featuring people about to encounter difficult situations to the accompaniment of 'Let's face the music and dance'. Which company were they advertising.

2) which make and model of car did Claudia Schiffer throw off her clothes and drive naked

Which 80's ad supposedly advertising one product actually sent sales of a different product through the roof?

When we did ads a couple of years ago I told the tale of a national DIY store that used 60s pop stars singing covers of their songs. So we had Freddie Garrity singing "You Were Made By Me" to a fitted wardobe and Lulu in a semi-tiled bathroom screaming "You Make Me Wanna Grout!".

Well no qualms about it being prerecorded given time of year and folk wanting time off. Thought it was not bad in the circumstances. And the out and about interviews added something a bit different. However it also proved that the interaction with its audience is what makes it the show it is.

I'm a bit confused here (not had a chance to go on Alison again yet).
Are you saying that last night's show was pre-recorded and no requests were required?
Why was the Blog not told beforehand?
And what about tonight? Is there no theme? No show? Pre-recorded again?

A bit in the dark here.

The little I heard of last night's show reminded me of the channel you'd listen to on a long-haul flight as a last resort after you'd read the duty-free catalogue from cover to cover six times.

Tonight Bryan has gone thro the playlists from this year and found some of the surprising, interesting and new discoveries we've made this year from our listeners.
And tomorrow, there's football on so we're making way for the important footy chat and commentary.

A truly idiotic piece of legislation but with one major advantage: the racist dirge that is known as our 'national anthem' about a battle with our neighbours (which we ultimately lost) must fall foul of it. Little wonder our sporting folks struggle so much to achieve the top flight.It's incredible we expect them to sing about losing before they get started.

Still, it'll be banned soon - thus leaving the door open for the Stephanie de Sykes classic " I Was Born With A Smile On My Face" to take it's rightful position as the nation's sing along anthem.

Have we done alternative national anthems yet?
