exactly my point, sir.
what i find concerning (seriously) about the following generation(s) is the lack of place, time, generally a lack of historical context of what is happening round about them.
and it does manifest itself in enquiries like the one you mention.
but we live in uncertain times and i find analysis of the current zeitgiest goes little deeper than the last episode of 'hollyoaks' or 'bb' (the other one).
having just returned from a reflective trip to amsterdam there are far too many echos bouncing around for my liking.

It's not because the song is about a man's obsession/love of a latex doll - (though there may be a deeper meaning about the correlation between increased material wealth and increased remoteness from the norms of society i.e. it's a song about being lonely at the top - or on top) but the fact that it's very slow and several minutes long and doesn't pass the drive-time 'pop-ability' test.

If our hero was on Sunday afternoons - he'd definitely play it whereas Robbie Sheppard might be tempted but being genre specific, it's out of the question. Mind you, it's an interesting thing to speculate on: I'd love to hear Robbie Sheppard introduce it, even if he didn't play it.....

Well, I delivered my beautifully packaged Leisure Society CD's to GIO, requested a few tracks, most especially 'Cars' but, zilch.

It would be great to hear, I just presume everyone's under the cosh in there and don't have time to listen properly - it's tougher to champion an artist from the blog, I suspect.

But a huge 2nd for Cars - The Leisure Society

Our hero's twitter feed speaks of listening to 'broken records' 3 times on the trot, but I think, 'well, if you want to get into quality alt folk, you won't have to listen to the Leisure Society three times to get it'. Amazing lyrics, beautiful melodies, beautifully played, but perhaps no one's got time to be bothered, otherwise it beats me.
