I nominate 'Sheet Music' by 10cc. 3 singles were taken from the album; 'The Wall Street Shuffle', 'Silly Love', and the wonderful (and previously played on GIO) 'The Worst Band in the World'.

'Somewhere in Hollywood' might be considered a tad long, but not by me. After all, it doesn't prevent 'Bohemian Rhapsody' being played.

Every track on the album is a stoater. I would be delighted to hear any one of them, but if you're forcing me to make a choice I'll opt for

re tawny pipit.......this bird was hopping about the garden for a few hours in late may coming and going and over the years i've tried to become more aware of unusual birds.....i had quite a close up view of this bird and i couldn't place it.i had the books out with many pictures of pipits and still couldn't get it to fit until i turned to the back of the book to the very rare species , and there it was.......tawny pipit.
the local manual had no previous recordings, ever.
the rspb were sceptical............however the local rspb officer was less so......on discussing it with him he said that there were quite a few south easterly winds in the spring/early summer so it was possible it had blown in from southern europe.
previously in the garden......corncrakes ( a brood of 12)...........short eared owl......white tailed eagle flying overhead.......a peregrine falcon/rock pigeon chase...the falcon screaming with rage at losing the prey..............harriers.......merlin.....snipe.......and as many waders as you can shake a stick at..........and more recently in the attic..........starlings who have colonised the chimney and parts of the roof!!

meanwhile the theme of birds continues with the album.............

'mr. tambourine man'....................and its arguably not even the best single on the album....................
so how about 'chimes of freedom'........................but any from the album would do.
i still think the byrds are a vastly underrated band...........a lot a radical sentiments in their songs

Thanks for the welcome Paulo, Henri and folk. It's a bit daunting being 'new kids on the blog'. Usually only time to send a quick email before tea so you'll probably not hear much from us. We're up in Wester Ross so blog meal on 6th not an option - plus hearing bloggers names regularly on 'Get it On' is a bit like knowing the characters in a favourite book. Meeting up would shatter what we guess you're all like!

Kings of Leon - 5 or 6 releases, none of them 'Closer' which is my favourite track.

There were five singles from The Bends by Radiohead but not the title track or (Nice Dream). Either of these deserves a play.

Ah well, that would be a Beatles night!

the fab four were not in the habit of including singles on their albums as they felt it cheated the public - mind you with that songwriting talent, they must have been among the very few who could afford to take that stance, commercially or artistically. Consequently, Beatles albums tend to be short on singles except where the tracks were germaine to the film soundtrack.

In fact,in the UK, 'With The Beatles' 'Beatles For Sale' Rubber Soul' 'Sgt Pepper' 'The White Album' and 'Yellow Submarine' have no singles released from them at the time.Astonishing - there were singles from these sessions, but they were released separately from the album.

An excption was the American releases which differed somewhat and included both Magical Mystery Tour and Hey Jude as albums with no UK equivilent - these were made up of singles to 'fill' the vinyl.

Magical Mystrey Tour includes 'Hello Goodbye', Strawberry Fields Forever' Penny Lane' and 'All You Need Is Love'

Any of these will do, but everyone knows the Beatles canon of singles so well it really would be tremendously refreshing to hear one of the many that so easily would have been a chart topper if anyone had been enthuiastic enough to be bothered to release it:

The first 2 Roxy Music albums didn't include singles either but they released singles at the same time as the albums, 'Virginia Plain' and 'Pyjamarama' respectively.

I remember back in '73 Johnnie Walker making a clown of himself on radio 1 by playing 'Pyjamamrama' and then stating it was from the new Roxy Music album 'For Your Pleasure' (which he had been listening to the night before).

Come On Come On is the fourth album by Mary Chapin Carpenter. Seven of its tracks became Billboard Hot Country Singles hits in 1992, 1993, and 1994. They were, chronologically, "I Feel Lucky" at #4, "Not Too Much to Ask" (a duet with Joe Diffie) at #15, "Passionate Kisses" at #4, "The Hard Way" at #11, "The Bug" (a cover of a Dire Straits song) at #16, "He Thinks He'll Keep Her" at #2, and "I Take My Chances" also at #2.
