#72 Thanks Norrie - I hadn't heard that - gives a clue how mental things got in Hamburg doing 12 - 14 hour shifts 6 days a week. I loathe the perception that Macca is not regarded as a rocker - the truth is the Hamburg Beatles were a human juke box - they could do anything - instead of sitting on his backside, McCartney just continued turning his hand to things he'd never done. I admire that.

#74 If I'd arrived in Budapest slightly earlier I'd have caught Ringo there, pity, I meant to go to the Glasgow gig and forgot about it - as much for Garry Wright and the others as for the Tank Engine narrator.

As an Iron Curtain kid, it's strange to be in a place like Budapest with my kids and reflect on the fact that, viewed from their birth, the prospect of being in Budapest at all, let alone the posters for Ringo, George Michael and Ms Spiers, was beyond the scope of our imagination as recently as twenty years ago.

The ultimate irony was paying to get into a park containing the statues of the heros of communism. The idea of capitalists charging to to let your eyes rest on Lenin's gigantic likeness would,were he capable of being aware of it, be enough to make his crusty mouldering old body disintegrate completely.

The transformation is total. The theme has me rivited into idolent musings. Sorry.

I went to tick the Ringo box, but I was keen to see Edgar Winter (he stood me up at The Ferry once) and Rick Derringer (Hang On Sloopy live anyone?). They were great but the surprise to me was the impudent power pop of The Romantics' Wally Palmar. I sang my head off all the way through and hope my neighbour obtained a refund. Go if the TV's poor that night.
