There was one teacher remembered by all from Rothesay Academy of a certain era. He was terrifying in his use of sarcasm and there will be people whose lives were undoubtedly blighted by his withering ferocity; but there are also many who have been grateful all our lives for his insistence on precision in use of language. He was the one teacher that absolutely everyone spoke of when we had a reunion a few years ago, and the one teacher whose words could still be recalled with absolute clarity.

That's not entirely out of GIO context as his son was a DJ at one time and must have been one of the first GIO 'regulars', though not in several years now.

Paolo, I have to remind you AGAIN that I could not be appointed social convenor before the AGM, and being newly employed again I find my time in short supply for arranging the extra-curriculars, therefore will not be standing for office.

However, just say the word and I'll be happy to attend whichever event you, as current social convenor, are organising. My calendar of social events is unsurprisingly blank at present.

Well done on being gainfully employed again, although I have to say I don't miss it. I wonder if you knew my old teacher JD who went to Rothesay. A friend of mine visits him occasionally. Approaching 90 but still able to recall his errant pupils and eccentric colleagues.

#26/#27 thank you both very much - very lucky to have got the job, though it may not last long: it's a temporary post on a gaelic unit in a primary school and well may you laugh, since my gaelic is most definitely not up to the mark. I'm in charge of one wee boy so can only hope that as long as I keep him occupied they'll hold off throwing me out for a week or two. You should see/hear the kids doing their times tables in gaelic while patting legs and head in the correct order - it's fine for those that have rhythm and don't have to think about it; a double challenge for the others.

A huge 2nd for Phoebe Snow and the McCartney classic 'Every Night' . I had it as a single late 70's (I think) but haven't heard it in years. I must go and download it now.

Sorry about Polly and whilst I 'get it', equally, I can't pretend to like it - being honest, much of the punk stuff just doesn't stand up beyond it's significance to it's time.

I note that none of the GIO disco playlist made it onto the real playlist - mind you, news that Elie Goulding's version of 'Your Song' ( "the worst record ever made" - G Miller) is the future monarch's favourite record does make you wonder if my debilitating comprehensive education was so bad after all. I was rather taken with the bridesmaid myself. Wonder what she's into?
