Stonecutters made them from stones
Chosen specially for you and I
Who will live inside
The mountaineers gathered tender
Piled high
In which to take along.
Driving many miles, knowing they'd get here.
When they got here, all exhausted
On the roof leaks they got started
And now when the rain comes
We can be thankful
Ooh aah ooh
When the mountaineers
Saw that everything fit, they were
Glad and so they took off
Thought we were devoid
A change or two
Around this place
When they get back they're all mixed up with no one to stay with
Silver Lining - Rilo Kiley
And I'm not going back
Into rags or in the hole
And our bruises are coming
But we will never fold
And i was your silver lining
As the story goes
I was your silver lining
But now I'm gold
You think these are nonsense? Willie Dixon says it best of all - the human race makes no sense at all:
It Don't Make Sense,
You Can't Make Peace
by Willie Dixon
You have made great planes to span the sky
You gave sight to the blind with another man's eyes
You even made submarines, they submerge for weeks
But it don't make sense you can't make peace
You take one man's heart and make another one live
u even go to the moon and come back thrilled
Why you can crush any country in a matter of weeks
But it don't make sense you can't make peace
You know it don't make sense- you can't make peace
When you can't make peace....
You can make a transfusion that will save a life
You can change the darkness into broad daylight
You make the deaf man hear and the dumb man speak
But it don't make sense you can't make peace
You know it don't make sense- you can't make peace

Norrie, like yourself, the initial reviews didn't help and I wasn't immediately attracted to it, though I loved Demon Days and bought it in hope more than expectation - but a couple of listens I realisid that those who had initially reviwed it hadn't listened to anymore than snippets or fully understood the breadth of the work.
It is a truly remarkable record and the first couple of intro tracks, it just flies.
I read a more recent review that said ' for those who wished Blur had made their 'White Album', this is it' and I know what they mean.
The scope in terms of styles of music, technical proficiency and sheer musical imagination is truly breathtaking.
I think if you asked those who initially reviwed it, they'd have changed their minds by now.
Definately album of the year: no contest.
