The J theme...
'Jazz, Judas and Jackanory' would be a fabulous title for an autobiography, but it's just three of the great themes you have suggested for J in our A-Z of themes. Like a lot of our bloggers I also liked Joe's suggestion of a GIO Jigsaw where you have to work out how three songs fit together. Might need a bit more planning to make it work on air though. I'll leave it in Miss Babs' in-tray.
It was a tough choice tonight but in the end we have decided to go with 'jangly guitars'. That could include everyone from Orange Juice to The Byrds. Ìý
Following on from tonight's 'mealy pudding' banter on the text, Damon texted in to ask if anyone remembered theÌýlegendary red pudding.ÌýI did but haven't had one in about 25 years. Unlike yer mealy pudding I have to say I don't miss them. Joe in Leith says you can still get them in his neck of the woods. If youÌýare interested in what a red pudding actually Ìýis then take a look at.Ìý

The Cure Lullaby
Crowded House Don't Dream It's Over
REM Losing My Religion
I know it has already been played, but we've had repeat perfomances before. Sometimes from the same requester with only couple of weeks between plays. Just sayin', in case issue is taken. A safe bet is to play the same band but another requester's choice. Everyone's happy. Or just not play them at all as a lesson for us not to be presumptious.

L = Longshots - the ones you suggest with little or no hope of them getting played.
For L night you would know that if you suggested something unusual it would have a good chance of getting played and that if you suggested the Smiths it would have no chance at all. For instance rather than American Girl, arguably Tom Petty's most famous song, you would have Listen to her Heart, which would almost certainly be enjoyed by the people who suggested AG. This would be a golden opportunity to encourage people broaden their horizons. There's a difference between 'very popular tonight' and 'lots of people suggested it because it's so well-known and there's a good chance it will get played and their name mentioned especially if having chilli for tea.
So - Longshots: either artists we know but their songs must be ones we don't usually hear or artists we haven't heard on GIO.
