Problems, problems...

Bryan Burnett | 17:39 UK time, Thursday, 4 September 2008

Kajagoogoo.jpgDespair, heartache and spots could all feature on tonight's show. 'Songs that could be on the problem pages' is the theme which was suggested by Kirsty in Killie. There are tons of good suggestions elsewhere on the blog and despite what you might think it sounds like we will have some funny suggestions.
Don't think we will match some of the puns suggested for last night's car theme. 'CorTina Turner' and 'Nissan Dorma' were two of my favourites suggested by Carol, but the best e-mail of the night came from Andy in Inverurie who suggested we play Roxanne by The Police. "It's a song about an escort" explained Andy...
The very nature of the subject means that a lot of the songs suggested are a bit 'down', however the Meeks in Dundonnell have come up with the song that will save the show! the pic above should give you a clue.

    Dear Brian,

I need help, there's too many songs to choose from. Here are a few suggestions!

    Problem - Sex Pistols
Problem Child - AC/DC(or The Damned)
    Suicide - The Damned
I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself -The White Stripes
Queen of the Street - The Stranglers( She's gone and left me, I don't know why...)
I Hate Myself and I Want to Die - Nirvana

    Ramones:
    Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment
    I Don't Care
    Lobotomy
The Job that Ate My Brain

Thanks for The Clash lastnight, all is forgiven!!

As someone about your age, Bryan, (or just a little older!!), I'm ashamed to admit that I'm only now realising the quality of Dusty Springfield. Truly awesome. Thanks for wakening me up on this.

Yes indeed I totally agree. I know it's a bit cheese but I happened to hear the track she recorded with the Petshop Boys the other day and you know what? It's BRILLIANT!

Jim and Jonny, Dusty rules! Check out the Memphis sessions for pure class. As a sucker for a sad song, Dusty's version of "If You Go Away" has always been a favourite!

    Enjoy

Indeed you are right. I just played If You Go Away and it is truly amazing. She was I think remembered for her ability to 'belt them out' but here she shows her real ability to put so much feeling into such a subtle song with an amazing control and lightness of touch.

Dusty In Memphis is good but Everything's Coming Up Dusty is incredible.
