Coming and Going

Once again returned from a trip south. Weather was variable hot one day and cold the next, so just like being at home!!

I've tried to post comments to Flying Cat a couple of times when I've been static for 5 minutes and they haven't appeared, so I'm hoping I'm not person non-grata with IBHQ for some reason.

We are moving on island in a couple of weeks times, so having to pack up MC, his bed (he's adopted one of our spare rooms as his - so he's not chuffed the bed is currently dismantled and surrounded by boxes.) and trying to keep the rest of his favourite places to sleep until the last push.

We're concerned about the move as when he stays with his foster carers he troops down to our house each day to see if we have returned yet. Normally he would go back the foster home for an evening's kip. This time he failed to return after day 10 obviously convinvced we had been away far too long and would appear at any second. We were glad to find him sauntering in from a days hunt when we got back.

Apparently he arrived one evening totally covered in slurry, but sat quite unconcerned while they washed and rinsed him from his adventure. Quite bizarre! They still didn't let him sleep with them that night, and he can't work out why!!

Any hints on moving cats and homes etc, welcome.

I counted them all out...

After three weeks packing and two and a half days transferring stuff (Junk - mercy, no!) one mile up the road, we (me, the husband and MC) have finally arrived with all 250 boxes (we hope!) and more furniture than you could shake a stick at.

We tried to have a wonderful list of each box (per room) numbered and marked E (essential), S (stand-by) or L (long term), in case it took us a while to get everything unpacked. The first failure was I left my list behind so ended up rumaging through rooms of boxes for some filing trays while the husband managed to unpack his office and bedroom in a flick of his wrist. How did he do it, I have no idea! I'm still in a sea of jumpers determined not to put them all back in the wardrobe, but drawn by the possibility of a three-week snow-in when they would be absolutely essential.

MC amazed us all by settling in really quickly. There was a definite look of 'so THAT'S what all the upheaval has been about - if only you said!' about him. He loved running through all the up-ended furniture and over all the boxes, pausing only to consider the new (and wonderous) views from the various windows.

To mark the occasion he caught and devoured half a rabbit in the first 24 hours. He then popped a sign at the end of the drive saying - 'Second-hand rabbits for sale - only eaten once' and a local gull dropped by to oblige his new trade.

He did have to cope with LWTCF (Life without the cat flap). For most of the first full day, we had doors open - 'cos there was such a shining thing in the sky and 'twas VERY hot and on the first night he obliged by using the litter tray with lots of scraping at 2am.

However, he still insisted on going out at 4am, much to the husband's disgust. I DID try to tell the husband to ignore MC, so he got used to the idea of staying in all night, but apparently MC was licking the husband's face.

MC has never been subtle about waking us up. When a young kitten his favourite was to sit on your chest and purr in your face until you woke. Once, when the husband was away, I found MC was patting me on the forehead with his paw when I woke, before he purred with delight at his success.

Last night he also wanted out at 4am but was caught in a strom and was not best pleased at waiting until 7am to be let back in, so he's now sleeping off the stress of it all in a 'favourite chair'.

I think I'll join him (in another chair - of course). I expect I'll have a nightmare about sleeping on a giant jumper in a filing tray.

Silly Season

Being the summer break all the news agencies are scrabbling around for a good story. If fact they'll take any story, good or bad during July and August.

So now is the time to wow the local papers and radio stations with the stories that would never normally make it through their front door, never mind on their air waves or pages.

If you've ever wanted to be encapsulated in print or be heard on the airwaves pick up the phone and offer them your litttle world and it's events.

I'm trying to think how to make MC's new trade in used bunnies a big news story. ideas welcome.
