Well, you know what he's like - old school. Got to talk over the intros and casually just finish when the singer starts. Radio DJs were taught to do that in the early 70s to screw up home taping The mobile jocks then picked it up and I think thats where our hero began life.

At least he restrained himself with Ballroom Blitz the other week.

Believe it or not, I've got that as a 12" single.

It does make me wonder though - what on earth possessed them to release that as a 12"? It's not exactly disco. More surprising, I bought it in that format.


Maybe it was because myself and 249,999 folk were going to see him at Blackbush Aerodrome, Camberley in July 1978. Graham Parker and the Rumour: Joan Armatrading: Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan.

Arrived slightly late and the stage was a spec in the distance - the sound was good though.

Next morning on a flight to Portugal, an Icelandic chap sitting next to me was staring at the Aerial Photo of the gig on the front of The Sunday Times. "What's that?" he said

" It's a Bob Dylan Concert I was at yesterday"

" How many people?"

"About 250,000"

" that's like the entire population of Iceland all together in the one place at the one time"

My 12" single of 'Baby, Stop Crying' is probably worth more about the Icelandic national debt. Maybe I could sell it and fund Janice's show?
