a number of decades ago whilst living on paradise island in the atlantic i came up with the idea of inviting a german schoolteacher to stay for a few weeks.
he arrived in his mercedes benz after a drive from berlin during which his exhaust fell off at canterbury (the devil is in the detail).
what ah would say is that havin' a german stayin' for a couple of weeks is a learning curve.
now i pride myself in rustling up a decent 'roll and square sausage' but what peter was looking for was 'tinned campbell's meatballs'....yes that is my jaw you heard hitting the kitchen floor.
on arrival peter enquired if there was 'mr. deisel' on the island. i had to inform him that we were just coming to terms with the wheel.(these were the days when if the ferry was late into oban due to excess time in loading livestock, cal-mac would put on taxis to take passengers to glasgow!!).
so peter didn't use the merc very often.
however one day he invited us for a drive to a beach in the merc.
must say , it was very nice too.....all that wood panelling and vorsprung technik.
he then reached for the in-car tape 'on-switch'......and you know that way you have to look out a car window at the atlantic and bite yer tongue at the same time? (if ever a time OMG was invented it mustave been then).
peter said that the singer was huge in germany and that he was his favourite singer (more staring into the blue yonder).......

I remember that Swing Out Sister - Breakout was massive in Japan as is Julia Fordam - Where Does The Time Go who was produced, incredeibly by a Radio Clyde DJ called Bill Padley - who I met when he made a radio commerical for my firm back in the 80's.

10CC were also huge in Japan.. Blackmail which as we know contains Eric Stewart's finest moment.
