#21 - tell me about it, Adam. Even Facebook has some element of everybody getting a look-in as to who's saying what with a chance to comment/ add/ subtract. Twitter's just a quick fix - immediate, no doubt, but there's something missing. And it's not just the ability to type more than 140 characters.

recently i stumbled upon a vhs tape of 'the big picnic' a masterpiece put on in a disused shipyard on govan road in 1994.
its a story about the govan boys on front in the 1st. world war and this astonishing drama was directed by bill bryden.
of course the first thing i did on finding this gem was watch it again.
there is incredibly moving music in the play.
non more so than the final scene and the singing of the anthem by the whole cast.

so from the final scene.

the problem here is and it is a challenge to the GIO team....can you find a copy?

if you manage to find a copy in some dark and dusty vault then you will want to play this..............guarenteed.

find it..........listen to it it...........then GIO.................then every listener will have a greater understanding and appreciation of the term 'finality'.

It's unusual for for me to have to 2nd the 12" of Say Hello, Wave Goodbye but I'm happy to do so. You have to be careful about your version though - I prefer the 91 remix from the 'Soft Cell -Memorabilia'Album - though Norrie's orginal 12" is also brilliant ( that's a soft cell track). What is not brilliant is the version that keeps on cropping up on GIO. Our hero promised to rectify this situation after playing the David Grey version about a year ago.

However, since we won't be hearing it, let me tell you about one of my favourite discoveries of recent times:

The Last Of The Melting Snow - The Leisure Society

Nick Hemming won an Ivor Novello award for this before the band even had a contract.Beautiful Mccartney melodic feel meets The Penguin Cafe Orchestra but with Lennon's lyrical ability. Awesome, gentle and refined, clever.

I've bought both of their albums 'The Sleeper' which contains the most remarkable cover version of 'Cars' and their new album 'Into the Murky Water'.

A complete joy for summer.

And now, the tweeting disaster: turns out I made the fatal msitake of wiping the bbc address from the tweet box, hence they didn't turn up at GIO. But, if you don't wipe the bbc address it only leaves you 50 characters - which for someone as verbose as me is a nightmare.So I deleted it and tweeted to myself for two days.

That said I have 100% more followers than before: so I must be doing something right!

Think of it as real-time like texting (and in fact, you can do Twitter via SMS on certain operators - Voda for sure), but without the fiddlyness of phones (or needing a signal - I have almost no signal at home, but excellent WiFi and can type waaaaay faster than I can text).

So best used: during the show.
