SOOO disappointed - the Great Wide Open has chains that would jingle - they really do, but only on your ipod (other etc)can you hear them. Still they are at least as loud as some of the acoustic guitars and it's a very popular song. You can check it at 2'17" with a cleverly accompanying pic. See, everything comes in handy sooner or later. Be sure to clamp your head to the speakers first.

Not that I`m checking up on you DC, but you are quite correct -

The album version is 22 minutes long and it was intended to reproduce a journey on the motorway. Band member Ralf Hutter recorded the passing cars in the background by dangling a microphone out of his old grey Volkswagen window as it traveled down an autobahn. However, these recordings were not suitable for the song, so they recreated the car sounds using synthesizers.

I forgot to point out that while 'Silly Love Songs' by Wings 'press' introduction was an idea borrowed from Pink Floyd's 'till' at the begining of 'Money' - Pink Floyd themselves nicked the idea from the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ sitcom 'Are You Being Served?' - one of a number of ideas the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radiophonic Workshop have contributed to popular music.

Still on a high after last night's Jack Bruce gig at The Arches - I managed to meet up with the man himself after the gig in his dressing room and he agreed to do a piece for a project I'm working on.Yipee.

Fantastic band though there were some problems with the equipment and, hilariously, just before the start of the encore, the drummer leaned back and fell right off the back of the stage - like something out of a silent movie, because none of the band immediately noticed. Not realising what had happened, Jack turned to start the the number by counting down with the drummer to be confronted with a vaccant drum kit: 'Well, we'll commence our last number when we get a drummer -has he left for the bar or something...O..apparently he's fallen off the stage'.

The poor soul had to be rescued and lugged back on, in some discomfort, for the closing number - a magnificent bluesy 'Spoonful'.

The band were an intresting bunch, 'The Blues Experience' from Ronnie Scott's Club.Very friendly,I spoke to the drummer afterwards and he was okay, thankfully.

All this smoozing prevented me from getting to see The Decemberists at The Barrowland which I'd been loking forward to.Still, I don't get to meet my heros every day.Doubtless, The Decemberists were fantastic.

Steady Norrie, people travel from all over to see Jack Bruce's gigs - a group of Finns had turned up and there was a bloke from Brazil as well - and we got talking to them.

They were all hanging about, wanting to meet their hero but with no idea how to go about it - so I simply went to security and said "Look, these folk have traveled all the way from Finland and this bloke is from Brazil, he runs a Jack Bruce Website over there and they all want to meet their hero - and I've got something I want to ask him as well, so could someone go and ask if he'll meet them?"

Sure enough, two minutes later, we were all invited into the dressing room.I took my sixteen year old step son (he plays bass and thinks Jack is God) in with me to get his ticket signed. He still can't believe it.

People always imagine performers are unapproachable, but I've found them to be very ordinary human beings.When I explained what I wanted Jack to participate in, he was happy to help.People generally are. The guys in the band seemed genuinely grateful for the positive feedback and friendly company to have a drink with - they were a long way from home.

Besides, I think it gives the musicians a good vibe about playing in Glasgow if people are interested enough to approach them and talk about the performance.

In any event, the collapse in cd sales twinned with '15 minute' celebrity culture means the days when artists can treat their public with rarefied aloof disdain are very firmly over - notice how many of our heroes are turning up playing live? Jack Bruce was in the Arches. The Stranglers were at the 02, The Decemberists were at The Barrowland - doubtless there were others on in other venues on Saturday night.

Spoiled for choice these days.

absolutely agree. 'Tickets To Waterfalls' is probably my favourite individual track of all time - it's the whole world of music in two and half minutes. Utterly brilliant, the only thing it doesn't have on it is sound effects, so I don't expect Mr Mozz (as Alladin McLean has re-designated him) will play it.well not before 6:30, I guess.

He plays bass the way others play lead, using a fretless instrument - amazing.

I downloaded Autobahn (the 22 minutes version which is only available on the album on ayechoons just so's I could check this out Adam. There is 20 seconds at the start of the track where a van door is shut & a diesel engine started up and then driven off.

Autobahn therefore does qualify for Monday's show. Between Autobahn and Pink Floyd's Echoes coupled with the Fred Macauley Show trailer, B&B could have the second hour of the show off
