Music for moggies...

Bryan Burnett | 19:50 UK time, Thursday, 24 February 2011

Over the years we have tried various themes to encourage all members of the family to contribute to the show. We've had songs your parents taught you, songs for the kids, teenage anthems and the tracks you first heard from a big brother or sister. On Friday night it's a GIO first where an often neglected member of the family gets to choose the songs. Are you ready for pet's choice!!

Do you have a cat or dog who really knows their music? Does your precious pooch get worked up every time The Stones come on the radio or does your beloved moggy get up and strut around the room when she hears Madonna?

It's all worked out well as Alison Craig will be presenting the show tomorrow and unlike me, she's a huge animal lover. So get in touch with Alison and let her know what would be on your pet's playlist...

    Alison,

How good to see you again! Check oot the wee song that has the cat running for the hills. It also gets the goldfish rather excited!

    - Ivor Cutler

You'll find it on Ivor's 1983 album, 'Privilege', or in John Peel's archives!

I'll be in the City Halls listening to the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, but I'll catch the show on 'Listen Again'. I know you'll make it worth hearing!

    Agreed.

    I don't have a dug. Or a cat.

One of the morons has a lizard called Eddie.

It doesn't matter what music I play, Eddie is immune and shows no sign of being affected by it in anyway.

So I have asked Eddie directly what music she has heard over the last four years that she has lived with us that she most enjoyed.

" I really liked the radio edit of 'Chariots' by Transglobal Underground' siad Eddie.

At least, I'm sure that's what she said.

    Good luck Alison!

My dog Bryan, and my cat Babs go pure mental so they do, howling and screeching and running round the room in terror when they hear any of these (which I play quite a lot as I like them a lot, but mostly on the ipod and in the car, obviously, before you ring the SPCA)

  • Comment number 16.

No cats on the farm... dogs would eat them! The two dogs are always too busy looking for cats to eat, to listen to the radio... but I do have the CD player on in the cow shed when mucking out and feeding the highland cattle who are on the yard in the winter.... only last Sunday I had a couple of bulling heifers, how should I say, playing leap-frog, accompanied by The Smith, 'What Difference Does It Make'.

  • Comment number 17.

Yes, yes, to The Hedgehog Song!

And though Zizi the cat doesn't give a toss for music, he does spend his many of his waking hours

    Watching Birds - Stornoway

  • Comment number 18.

I used to have a pet goldfish called Gladys. She used to sing to herself:

    O the Goldfish,
    Is a fine fish,
And it swims around and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round
    And round and round.....

Obviously gets on your nerves after a while. One day, this got to me so much, I used Gladys as bait in one of my creels (see#9 above)

  • Comment number 19.

In memory of Gladys the goldfish and Rocky the Lobster, please play

    Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley

    "I'm caught in a trap,
    I can't walk out...."

You are all going away off theme. You can't just pick titles with animals in it or titles that describe behaviour. The theme is songs that drive your pets wild when they actually hear the songs.

Surely to goodness you can take the theme seriously.

I have a tamagotchi and I'm off to play it some music to see what reaction I get.

  • Comment number 23.

#20 Check facebook...they've realised what a load of tosh the original theme was and have amended it accordingly!
'Outlaw Pete' - Brooooce...for my cat Big Fat (Outlaw) Pete.

PB: We've got this one from Clydebank.
BB: Oh yeah. What is it?
PB: Songs that your pets like.
    BB: You're joking!
PB: No and its from Clydebank, we have to use it.
BB: Hmmmmmmm. When are we next off?

  • Comment number 25.

I had a cat once who would go tearing around the house anytime I played bagpipe music,(Bagpipepuss!)particularly the uillean variety so when ever I played say,The Chieftains or Allan Stivell old Oscar would go nuts.Perhaps it sounded like cats getting it on.!Anyway gives me an excuse to request a brilliant one hit wonder from 1966 by Norma Tanega called "Walking My Cat Named Dog"Cheers Willie Bartke

I meant to say even given some of the negative comments I dont have any pets despite being a huge animal lover, circumstances dictate I cannot have any of the lovable wee things in the house, and I am really looking forward to hearing about some of the crazy pet antics....I'll be listening along!

  • Comment number 31.

Well, we pick the music (unless it's Gong or 'Say Hello, Wave Goodbye') but the high heidyins at the politbureau in Pacific Quay direct the themes.

It is for us, the blogotariat, to implement the high heidyins strategic dircetion - even if we don't think it's the right direction - we still have to treat the strategy seriously and implement it.We know our place.

In consulting with the morons' pet lizard about tonight's selection of musical requests, I feel I am conducting myself in line with the strategic direction imposed from the high heidyins and treating the strategic direction and plan with the gravitas and seriousness that is required.

Over the lunch hour I even phoned home and asked Smiffy to consult with Eddie as to whether there were any additional suggestions. Mention of the 12" version of Say Hello, Wave Goodbye - Soft Cell brought on some head nodding - so that's a choice of two now - hopefully we'll hear one of them.

Such a theme does offer the prospect of 'payback time' - I'm sure you can all recall the infamous moment when this version of Say Hello Wave Goodbye was requested and our hero and Kirstin irrationally decided to play some droning whining apology of a song by David Grey instead.

Eddie agrees the 12" Soft Cell version is the bees knees and I think we should hear it in al its magnificent glory, Alison.

Clearly Gong wasn't in the strategic direction, so it's our fault for not perfectly understanding it, including the secret concordats.

Anyone who suggests that we merely shortleet the music and the production team actually pick it/use the shortleet to justify existing plans is a traitor and will be shot on sight.
