Excellent show tonight so thanks to all who contributed. Here's to the band name generator that I referred to on air. Hours of fun can be had, especially if like me you have a juvenile streak!
I promised I'd put the top five names suggested up on the blog and they are as follows:
1. Death By Milkfloat
2. Elias and His Zig Zag Jive Flute Band
3. Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead
4. Dananananakroyd
5. Thirty Odd Feet of Grunts
Tuesday's show is 'mum and dad's taxi'. We get loads of nightly suggestions from folk who are stuck in the car while their offspring are out enjoying themselves. If that's your role in life nowadays then let us know what are the songs that keep you entertained while you wait.
You don't have to be a parent to participate of course. What are the tracks guaranteed to relieve the boredom of a long wait in the car? Get in touch and let me know...

Maybe we should have a 'what do real real taxi drivers listen to'theme.
I've got nothing to contribute either:My youngest is a 22 year old delinquent. He can get his own bloody taxi.
I don't understand the theme: what do mum and dad's taxi listen to during the hours of 18:00 - 20:00. Get It On?
If they do, there's nothing to request.
If they don't, we'll never know.
Anyway, how shall we amuse ourselves in the meantime?

It would be good to hear that on GIO, but it's not released until 21/11.

If the songs for Wednesday are to be ones that sound better when we're blootered, does it mean they're not really that good in the sober light of teatime? Will this make for a good programme? Can I remember what songs I sang way, way back in the day when large amounts of alcohol didn't make death seem like a good idea following morning?
Still, Scotch is right, the Wild Rover is good for a sing-a-long and takes me right back to underage drinking in Struan Hotel where two folk singers caused the bar to be stowed out every Saturday one summer. The Leaving of Liverpool, Streets of London, Last Thing on my Mind, Wild Mountain Thyme, dark rum and coke or Double Century beer. Ah yes, happy days. And another try for the McCalmans I daresay.

The Daughter's now hung up her fitba boots and goalie gloves and stopped throwing boys over her shoulder but, while I was Mum-who-paid-for-the-taxi, I was pleased GIO was there to keep me amused.
Play 'Hurry Up And Wait' by The Stereophonics to remind me of the time when 5 evenings out of 7 were spent hanging around...and, to the parents who sit in their toasty warm cars listening to GIO while waiting for their little darlings' sporting or cultural activity to end in these dark winter months...when you see a grumpy shivering rain-bedraggled parent pacing to or fro rubbing their poor cold hands together...don't just think "why is he/she not inside in the warm"? They may not have a car, and the pavilion is locked...invite them in for some shelter and a wee listen to the radio...brrrr!

Years of conditioning meant accepting I was the absent workaholic faither, though I recently was given some converted ancient family video tapes from Chateau Hannah which proves that I was there - if only holding the camera. Well,at least until the separation and divorce came along.
Moreover, for many years I was completely aerophobic*, so family holidays to the South of France comprised of enormous car journeys. But once you get below Lyon, it's glorious driving.
And I was completely disinterested in what any of 'them' wanted to hear, was a complete tyrant on the subject and inflicted my musical taste constantly - at all times when I drove them about - which it turms out I really did do. I'd just forgotten!
Accidentally inculcating my musical taste may be my only lasting parental contribution but something seems to have rubbed off. They've all picked up on things from those car journeys.
It's an absolute priviledge as a parent, years later, to find yourself at a Steve Wonder concert with your daughter, as a whole family at the McCartney gig in Hampden, with Smiffy and the twins at Dreadzone and later this month with our Steven at Leftfield (weird father and son gig, but hey!).
Recently, our Tom phoned me up and said 'What was that song you used to play in the car about someone's Little Sister, I really loved that'.
So you see, it turns out I did have a role after all:
Little Sister - Ry Cooder (Tom)
American Dread - Dreadzone (The Twins)
Somedays - Paul Mccartney (All)
Space Shanty - Leftfield (Steven)
I Was Made To Love Her - Stevie Wonder (Katie)

I owe my love of country to my dear Dad after all those years waiting in the car and flicking through the cassettes and giving them a listen. (Sadly or fortunatley the love of jazz has not been passed onto the daughter)
To remind me of all those hours (which were probably more like minutes)waiting in the beloved brown Scimitar waiting impatiently would be Kenny Rogers, Coward of The County. It will be a sad day at the end of the month when I have to finally come to terms with the fact that my Dad is never going to bring me home a puppy ;-)
