True Fans night
When you're thinking up suggestions, it's very easy to go for the *obvious* track for a given artiste, particularly when you're just trying to get songs that fit.

And it's annoying for the true fans of that artiste - it's always one or two tracks for each artiste that always seem to get requested and played, not least because

For example: us Broooooce fans, we've heard Born in the USA, Born to Run & Thunder Road many times. They're great tracks, but we know that there are many other gems that we wish would get aired from time to time.

For the Undertones, it's Teenage Kicks
For Bowie, it's Let's Dance & Ziggy
For the Proclaimers, it's Sunshine on Leith & 500 miles
For Johnny Cash, it's Personal Jesus, Folsom Prison & I Walk the Line
For Bragg, it's Sexuality &


So can we have a night when you avoid the QI klaxon tracks, and go for Atlantic City, My Perfect Cousin, Life on Mars, Cap in Hand, Benny & the Jets, 25 minutes to go, Tank Park Salute and so on - the tracks that true fans of that artiste know are just great, but wouldn't be what comes to mind as "the one track I know of" for non-fans.

Madmac's delivered a few blistering presentations in his day ...

The problem in the past has perhaps been that we can get the impression that some of the less well known tracks will not be played so, in order to get an airing, we have a tendency to go for the more obvious. I, for one, would welcome the chance to broaden my musical experience by hearing tracks as you suggest.

I don't know if this would work as a theme, but what about a night where you suggest a song belonging to a specific category - skiffle, grunge, punk, blues, indie etc etc. and aiming to have 20 different categories played during the programme. For one thing it would help me understand what a reviewer means when he says - you know - 'Terrified Toad are a new Glasgow band who are a bit post-punk, a bit leftfield with some garage undertones and a hint of trance.'
