This is my first suggestion for just an amazing moment. Jackson Browne at GRCH played this wonderful song and the place was silent to the end until he finished and the whole hall stood on their feet to give a three or four minute ovation. Mid set, not an encore. This is the best clip I can get which would half do it justice:



Similarly for a couple of k d lang tracks. Hallelujah puts you on the ropes, The Valley is the knockout blow.

Momentarily,Senga,I thought you'd taken up poetry.

I was thinking, 'has daddy gone to heaven because she's sleeping with her boss? And are you making room for a cup of tea because you're otherwise filled with emotional turmoil?'

Anyway, I owe our Bryan a small apology for suggesting that he hates Cream, which he says he doesn't. I should have written 'even if bryan hates Cream'

Apologies, Bryan.

It was presumptious of me. I think the idea built up in my mind from the night last autumn when about 15 people requested 'White Room' but it didn't get played.

I did once partially succeed with my Jack Bruce campaign but only in getting the Ella Fitzgerald version of 'Sunshine Of Your Love' played.

I also remember 'Sunshine of your Love' by Cream did get played once but I think Vic or Graeme was standing in that night.

Requests for Cream are quite regular as are requests for Clapton's solo work and from myself for my hero, Jack Bruce, but I cannot recall any of them being played.

Oh well, I'll just have to persist.It had never occurred to me that requests that are consistently denied are not tantamount to a refusal.

From this it's possible to deduce that my pivotal misunderstanding is in imagining that that the show has some kind of democratic basis to it, hence my occasional disappointment.

But in reality, this is good news:requests at margin are still requests. A benign dictatorship is just as likely to pick a single request for Cream, whilst ignoring 15 requests to play The Proclaimers.

So, I'll be optomistic, but not put the champagne on ice:-)

There was mud at Woodstock but the music was better and it cost much less.

Procol Harum were supposed to play but they had to return to the UK because Robin Trower's fatherhood was imminent. The course of history might have been changed. Look at the difference it made to the Incredible String Band.

We must remember that Woodstock 1969 occurred prior to one of the greatest confidence tricks in modern history, i.e. decimalisation.

In 1969 the exchange rate was roughly £1 - $2.4

In 2010 the exchange rate is roughly £1 - $1.5

In 1969 the going rate for mud in New York State was $0.32 per gallon.

In 2010 the going rate for mud in Perth & Kinross is £5.16 per gallon.

The situation is further complicated by a U.S. gallon being not quite as ample as an Imperial gallon, and also Her Majesty's Government's attempts to convince us that gallons no longer exist. (see decimalisation con, above).

Add to this the fact that in New York in 1969 the price represented a 97.4% profit margin, and in Scotland in 2010 97.4% tax. This should be enough to convince us to pack our bags and go live in the U.S.A., where the music is better and the mud is cheaper.

I was at that gig, though, unimaginably, in corporate hospitality.

It just seemed like one enormous noise to me as though there was a correlation in which cranking up the volume would somehow compensate for age.

There's also something disconcerting about a man of that age dressing up as an 8 year old.

It was an experience rather than an enjoyment.
