Wednesday's theme...
Tonight's show looks set to be a celebration of the songwriting skills of His Bobness.
Stewart on the e-mail, Bill in Edinburgh and Norrie on the blog have all been asking for a night of Dylan covers. There are over 22,000 to choose from including Bryan Ferry, The Specials and Rod Stewart.
I know that many folk find Dylan's unique vocal delivery a , and even the most ardent Dylan's fans would not put him into a poll of the world's greatest singers. So tonight is the perfect opportunity to hear some of the greatest songs ever written without having to endure what some unkind critics have referred to as his 'god awful whining'. How very dare they!

Really looking forwrad to the Dylan covers and there are so many gems to pick from including Emmylou's fantastic version of Every Grain of Sand, Springsteen with Chimes of Freedom, Bobs allegedly favourite version of one of his songs in Elvis covering Tommorow is a Long Time, nanci Griffithy Boots of Spanish leather, and loads of Ferry choices.
I would really like to nominate a strangely brilliant version of My Back Pages by the Magokoro Brothers which is sung entirely in Japanese and bizarrely is so good you cannot help but try and sing along! (easy to get its on Dylans Masked and Anonymous Soundtrack)

This is the ideal opportunity to demonstrate the genius of the man by playing "All Along the Watchtower" by Hendrix, followed by "If Not for You" by Olivia Newton-John! The contrast could hardly be greater!!

Also how about Simply Red's or Bryan Ferry's versions of 'Positively 4th Street' or any other song from Ferry's Dylanesque album. Alternatively Manfred Mann's cover of The Mighty Quinn.
Cheers

I have to agree that Bryan Ferry doing Dylan is the biz!
Dylanesque is a brilliant album I love it all!
Make you feel my love is great!
or .......
If not for you - also like it by Olivia Newton John
but.......
Simple twist of Fate - in true Bryan Ferry full blown sexy style is outright winner for me!

Hendrix had a great version of it but Ferry's is not as self indulgent and puts the song at centre stage but still has some great guitar work by Procul Harem's Robin Trower.
P.S. This is my 3rd attempt at writing on this blog, what happened to the other two?

Really enjoying the show tonight.
Would it be toooooooo controversial to consider that a fine cover version is the ONLY way to enjoy A Dylan song?
Nick Drakes version of "Tomorrow is a long time" seems to be a fine example of somebuddy else makin the song work.
Much respect to a wonderful songwriter who canne sing for toffee. I just get the impression he is practicing for a Tuvan throat singing competition while stepping on a cats tail that's got a thistle stuck in its' gullett!
Gotta love his Bobness.!
