Top teams...

Bryan Burnett | 17:24 UK time, Thursday, 24 July 2008

"I guess greatness should be oozing from every corner of tonight's show ..." says Keen Gelly in his e-mail about tonight's show. The theme is great songwriting partnerships, which we naively thought could be done in one night. Ha!

Lennon and McCartney, Leiber and Stoller, and Goffin and King could all be separate themes. It's only when you sit down and look at a partnership like Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil you realise how much scope there is for the show. They wrote Here You Come Again, On Broadway and You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling. Not a bad contribution to popular culture eh?

Morrissey and Marr will no doubt be suggested amongst the best of the British bunch, although I promise not to over enthuse about them. Especially after Cindy sent the following response to my coronation of The Smiths as the best ever...

" It's official!! (it was announced on the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ) 'The Smiths are the greatest band of all time! Disappointed runners up included Take That, Bros, Bay City Rollers, Kajagoogoo etc etc."

Brilliant show BB + the hard-working GIO team. I say team, in recognition of the efforts also put in by Mandy, Babs, Kirsten and Sue ... ladies, your hard work IS appreciated.

Great songwriters was always going to bring out the best in the GIO disciples, and (true to form) there were some outstanding selections. Good on you all!

Anyway ... gush time over ... picked up on your comment about another night of Glam. Can't think there's anyone out there who'd object. What's not to like about silver suits, 6" platforms, men with make-up (lots of) and flares to die for ... and a collection of songs that (for many) will always be fondly remembered. Brings back that Q again though ... do you include GG? Not sure where I stand on this one to be honest. Rock 'n roll (part 2) was such an influence on me at the time! However, do you just ignore all that has come to pass?

    Keep it different GIO team
