Monday: The song that immediately springs to my mind is "You are my world" by The Communards - such an uplifting sound...clear soaring vocal and fantastic piano.

Among my other favourite falsetto singers is Martyn Jacques of the wonderfully strange band The Tiger Lillies. Anything from the "Junk Opera" "Shockheaded Peter" may be interesting to play on radio. "Bully Boys" or the cautionary tale of what happens if you suck your thumb - "Snip Snip" give a good indication of what they're like.

Monday: I have got a few suggestions which slightly to my surprise are from some of my favourite artists:

Joan As Policewoman - great track from an outstanding album Real Life, the guest vocal from Antony on "I Defy" is outstanding.

Lou Reed - I saw Lou performing with Little Jimmy Scott at the Playhouse I think around 1992 and Jimmy Scott was indeed little, somewhat wizened but with an absolutely incredible voice. He perfortms with Lou on the track "Power and Glory" and its a superb performance on a great track. Not awfully cheery for a Monday evening though!

Bruce Springsteen - Bruce performs the track Lift Me Up entirely in falsetto but I would like to suggest All I'm Thinking About from Devils and Dust which is a great track and defintely is cheery enough for a Monday evening!!

Jackson Browne - Stay. Now if Bryan and the Team can use the Royal Concert Hall version that would be great as the Glasgow crowd are brilliant on this! I am sure we were all doing some falsetto!! If not the standard version from Running on Empty is of course memorable for David Lindley's falsetto! Speaking of which.....


David Lindley - El Rayo-X will get you dancing round the studio again!!

For falsetto day it's got to be the one and only Billy MacKenzie. Would anyone be brave enough to sing like that nowadays? Either Club Country or Party Fears Two. Going down the album route how about Skipping from Sulk?

You know every week I read the posts and always I think aaargh I should have or meant to say that. Julie especially, but Billy McKenzie is one who I really should have got! Party Fearas Two always fantastic to hear but....wouldnt it be great (as I dont think you can get this anymore) to hear one of his B.E.F tracks preferably the Bowie cover of Secret Life of Arabia!

Monday: Two singers spring immediately to mind - Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons, and Roy Orbison.

It would be great to hear Rag Doll, one of the Seasons' best IMHO, and the Big O's In Dreams, which slowly builds to a fantastic falsetto climax.

I am not sure if this suggestion is for Monday or Tuesday: Yanick Ettiene's vocal at the end of Roxy Music's Avalon. Bryan Ferry and producer Rhett Davies where working on the track in a studio in Nassau and needed something for the final refrain of the track but just didn't know what. They went into the corridor for a coffee and heard the voice of an Angel coming from the studio next door and they asked the girl to sing sing on Avalon. The result is nothing short if beautiful.

A bit of trivia: Yanick Ettiene is the only woman to perform on a Roxy Music record (so far)

Wednesday:
ODD NUMBER Roxy Music 'Three And Nine' refering to the cost of a cinema ticket when Ferry went to the Odeon, La Scala or was it the Roxy when he was a lad.

Ferry also has a song called The 39 Steps but it's by far one of his best.

EVEN NUMBER

Roxy Music '2HB' is an ode 'To Humphrey Bogart' and the song makes many references to the movie 'Casablanca' Ferry re-recorded it for a solo album and I prefer the version on the 'Let's Stick Together' album. Madness who where big Roxy fans had a b-side called '4BF' as a pastiche of '2HB' and it meant 'for Bryan Ferry'

This reminds me of a suggestion for a theme 'Songs that the title is not in the lyrics'

Monday: ...how could I have forgotten - Del Shannon. Hats Off To Larry or Little Town Flirt would be good.

Tuesday - Tremendous theme! Any of these (obvious) ones would be gr8:"Has anybody here seen my old friend Martin? Can you tell me where he's gone?"; "Sittin' in the mornin' sun..."; "Drinkin' all night, got into a fight, I feel so broke up, I wanna go home"; "No I can't forget the feeling nor your face as you were leaving" or "Once upon a time there was light in my life, now there's only love in the dark..."

Monday FALSETTO Roxy Music 'Sentimental Fool' this was a great opening track on the 1975 tour when Ferry performed the opening falsetto lines from off stage and appeared from the side halfway through the first verse to make a dramatic intrance.

Simple Minds the close of 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' "... I said La, la la la la, la la la la...."

Another piece of trivia is that Kieth Forsey who wrote this song offered it to Bryan Ferry first but he turned it down as his father had just died and didn't have the time to do it. Simple Minds where third choice behind Billy Idol who turned it down after Ferry.
