Were out and about today so sent himself out in the cold to get some photo's!! While we all stayed nice and toasty in the car :)
This is Scalpay just a few miles out of Tarbert.
This is the bridge you have to cross to get to Scalpay. You used to have to catch a wee boat to get across!!
This is the Shaints. Beautiful wee islands that I was lucky enough to visit on the Waverly.
There are more photo's but I need to suss out how to resize them!! Once I've figured that out I will post them!

Hailstones or golfballs?!
Posted: Sunday, 09 March 2008 |
As I sit writing this, and after having just hung out washing (typical!!), the heavens have opened with hailstones the size of golfballs. They are monsters! Thank goodness the dog was walked first thing this morning - stuff getting stuck in that shower - ouch!!
While out walking I noticed the primary school had no roof left on it and is in a pretty bad state overall. It went on fire last night, seemingly, although I was none the wiser about it till this morning! The fire engine was still there so it must have been a rip roaring blaze. There seems to have been a lot of fires here in the last while. There was a new house completely gutted up in Ballalan not that long ago, then shortly after that there was another house gutted in Laxay, now the school down here has ended up ablaze. Not sure how badly damaged it is though - although it looks pretty bad. Coincidence or not?! I'm not so sure anymore... Maybe there's an arsonist in our midst. Or maybe it really is just a run of horrendously bad luck. Who knows!!
Apart from that all's quiet on the western front as they say. Everyone is chocked with the cold but the usual bugs are doing the rounds just now so it was just a matter of time before one of them came into the house! The kids are worse with it than us adults, although we're the ones that are walking about like death warmed up! Wish I had some of their..well whatever it is that makes them so robust! The kids are climbing the walls just now though, not because of the cold but because they can't get out and about much. It just really hasn't been the weather. Fair enough if its just one of the elements to brave but it seems to be all four seasons in a day just now. If we took the wee man out in the wind there's been lately he'd be blown away!! And our wee girl hates hailstones. We got caught in a nasty shower of them before and she'd not forgotten it since. Mind you this is the kiddie that got stung by a bee when she was just a few months old and she still has a major fear of any wee beasties that fly. Her memory really is something else!
They've started been typical sister/brother now. Fighting non stop. Our wee girl is getting a bit rough with the wee man. She's still that wee bit little to realise that she could really hurt him with the way she pushes him about and hugs him to tight etc. Its getting to the frustrating stage now (for everyone) and I'm sure I'm beginning to sound like a broken record. I constantly seem to be saying 'would you two stop that', 'stop fighting you pair', 'if I have to come through there again...', 'will you give me just a minute', you get the jist!! Man this being a mum can be difficult at times! They don't warn you about this side of it all do they?!
But then all they have to do is give you a hug or say 'I love you mummy' or just that wee look that they do and all the bad/hard/difficult/trying stuff is forgotten. For that moment anyway!!
Well I've got a wee man thats climbed up and is wanting some cuddles so I better not argue. I know who the bosses are in this house!
