We've been out photographing Bluebells here in the Garden of Shetland.

Bonny Scottish bluebells, with the proper scent, unlike the Spanish usurper variety with nae scent at a`!! That black cat on the left o` the pic looks pretty tough....

As long as there are cats of character and determination in the world, we'll be able to say "It's a dog's liff." Go Kitties!!

Any of those black duos tries to cross the road in front of my humvee, and it's sayonara: I only stop for boiled peanuts.

The 2 kittys remind me of two I found abandon in an old car wtreck. Took them home and one Wobbly (named because it kept falling over ) lived till its late teens.

"Ring, ring, the Bluebells of Scotland, tell the whole wide world!" Kitties are beautiful too.

We have Whitebells here. Are they rare?

The kitty on the left is "Brodgar" and she is a tough nugget! She's a small cat but has managed to terrorize all of the big barn cats and now she rules the farm! We adopted her from Orkney Cats Protection when she was about 4 or 5 months old. They had found her half-dead at the Ring of Brodgar. She is just a lovely puss to have around! She rules the house too - right now she's basking on the sofa.

The majority of bluebells in the Northern Isles are Spanish bluebells (Endymion hispanicus) and have the colour variations of pink and white. A lot of the self-seeded plants here in Rolling Acres have appeared in the white form, so I'm afraid they're not rare. But very pretty. The Scottish bluebell is the harebell, which is a campanula (bellflower) and usually flowers from June/July onwards. The best book ever written on British wildflowers is 'The Wild Flowers of Britain and Northern Europe' by Richard Fritter, Alastair Fritter and Marjorie Blamey.
