I scrounged another batch of photos off of Dag so that we can all take a peek at sheep farming in Norway! He and his wife are teachers *and* shepherds on a bonnie 100 acres of hill farm complete with woods (covet...covet). They have 50 native Norwegian sheep (twice the amount we have at the moment) and will have 80 - 90 lambs by the time lambing season has ended. (Are you desparate for sleep yet, Dag??)

Enjoy the photos! (thanks Dag!)

A photo of Dirdal. Isn't it lovely? I can't get over the dramatic hills!! They remind me of the hills I saw in the Highlands while Erlend and I were on our honeymoon.

A colorful Norwegian sheep! Dag has it labled as, "Norwegian Pels Sheep" so I'm guessing "Pels" is the breed? I love how bonnie and colorful she is! My sheep are great but...they are ALL white. (This sheep even has a fringe! And uh...glowing blue robot eyes??)

Dirdal Beach

Dirdal river (how I miss rivers! I don't think they are common on islands...)

Hogsfjord. (I can't do the theta "o") WOW what a site! So much like the Highlands!

Dag's lovely hoose and lovely wife standing in their lovely garden. (Oooo! Tulips! We have red tulips blooming in our yard too!)

Pelssauer are grazing. (What does this mean, Dag? Is Pelssauer the breed of sheep?) Hey look at that - a red barn! Just like back home in Massachusetts! I miss red barns - Orcadian byres are sturdy windproof concrete and if I painted our byres the wind would blast the paint right off hahaha!!

Steinskog Gard (Stoneywood Farm) They have stone dykes like here in Orkney!

Dag and his domain. (Are you looking around for escaped lambs, Dag?) You LUCKY goose Dag! You live right on a river! My dad's house is right on a river and I always loved hearing the river music. We have a loch nearby here at our farm - and it is often covered in swans!

A flock of camera hams! Sheep are just so darn cute. It's unfair really! I can hear mine yelling from their field, "Bring us grain! Bring us grain!"

We hope you've enjoyed your tour of sheeping in Norway!

The Norwegian "Pels Sheep" (named "Spiss") in the picture is actually my sheep. It`s very amusing seeing a picture of her on Islandblogging.

Dag's daughter from Student in Trondheim, Norway

What superb photos, Moo and Dag! Thank you. Dag, the location of your house is just wonderful, I am green with envy! Are your sheep on the opposite side of the river from your house?

I saw my pictures of Dirdal and H酶gsfjorden on bbc.scotland's mainpage today. I'm quite thrilled and honored by the way you Scots show interest in Norway. Thanks to you, Michelle, for putting up the pixs.

Dag from Norway

Very nice area you live in, Dag.

It`s making me homesick for Scotland! I miss rivers too..and mountains...and trees...it doesnae look like they get much wind in Norway...

Hermit from Melancholy place

I thought Orkney was deemed to be part of Scotland. True, not the same as some parts of mainland Scotland, but Scotland none the less? No melancholia, Hermit. Snap out of it. Put some trees on your computer and have a slide show.

I've discovered that one does not dare call an Orcadian a "Scott." They seem more comfortable being identified as Orcadian - or Norwegian!! (They even sound like Norwegians!) But Scottish...I dunno. That never goes over very well. It was the same way in Sicily - you didn't dare call a Sicilian an "Italian" !!! I bet if Norwegian politicians came over here and canvassed for votes they'd get plenty!!

Michelle Therese from Mainland Orkney

True, never call an Orcadian a Scot! Speaking as a Scot I feel particularly brave, living here, sometimes...;-)

Hermit from In the Lions Den

oh good grief no, mjc, Orkney is Orkney and a sight more Norwegian than Scots! And they do prefer it that way, not that I mind at all. that body of water atween here and Scotland is an BIIIIIIGGG one in more ways than one. ;-)

Hermit from Orkney Not Scotland

I'm sorry, it won't happen again. f From now on I call you Orcadian or Islanders, but I did it in good faith. I have both scotish and celtic blood in me veins mixed with " det norske." I'm very glad you have so high thoughts about us norwegian.

Dag from Norway
