The Fetlar Community Cafe held an Ice Cream Sunday last week. There were 4 flavours of home made ice cream to devour. All were made in Fetlar and most featured produce grown in Fetlar.
There were 4 choices of home made ice cream to be tasted: Golden Bay, Lemon Alaska, Christmas Pudding & Aaliyah Rose Celebration.
The Lemon Alaska had Thyme in it, Aaliyah Rose contained Rosewater and was garnished with Strawberries grown here in Fetlar and the Golden Bay ice cream was made with locally grown herbs. All in all, three quarters of the cafes takings was due to the sales of ice cream.
The Aaliyah Rose Celebration ice cream , which was light and delightful, was named after the chef's new born grandchild.
A nice way to be celebrated!
All were delicious. I tried them all.
The Cafe, which is open from 12 -4 every day, hopes to make the ice creams more of a feature.

this is cruelty,muness,sheer downright cruelty--i don't normally like ice cream but the above flavours are just making my mouth water(no,not opal fruits-ice cream) can you send me some? no!of course not,so do i have to come to fetlar in september to try some??

They'll have to lay on extra ferries, MV. Those ice creams look completely yummy. Which is the meringue-y looking one? I'll have one of those, please.

Your Foy was grand. Music fantastic. Weather beautiful. BBQ food was delicious - only disappointment was - NONE OF THAT SCRUMMY LOOKING ICE CREAM!! Fetlar knows how to enjoy itself!

well. You fill the car with tent, barbie stuff, food, hot clothes, cold clothes, wind proof clothes, rainproof clothes, sun tan lotion just-in-case, hot water bottle and flask, you head for Fetlar and locate the camp site. You struggle - usually in gale force winds to put tent up, then go get food drink and listen to music - its just like Glastonbury really. If only I'd been invited, sniff sniff...I don't know ANYBODY with a house on Fetlar, now do I.... and as for ice cream... not a mention....

No need for cold clothes - weather was divine. No gales to hamper tent putting up. Wish I could make you jealous by saying I had ice-cream, but that would be dishonest!!! Does Scalloway have a Foy or some such frivolity?
