My name is Pilar. I grew up in Galicia in the North West of Spain. ‘Duermete Mi Nino’ is a lullaby that my mother used to sing to me when I was little:
‘Go to sleep my baby go to sleep my son br>
Go to sleep little piece of my heart’ br>
(it doesn’t rhyme in English, but that is what it means in Spanish.)
The second version is:
‘Go to sleep my baby, go to sleep my son br>
I have things to do like washing, ironing, nappies and the like’
My mother used to sing to me when she put me to sleep. She’s be joined by the elderly people of our neighbourhood who gathered together to sit and chat. While they were chatting, they’d sing and rock any babies that were around.
