Presenting your personal intentions and responseMounting your work

Artists and designers often exhibit their work, meaning it has to be presented in a way that will allow the viewer to see the original idea or intention. Artists and designers who are working to a specific brief will have to present work to clients in a clear manner in order to show they have met the brief.

Mounting your work

Your work must be arranged on sheets and mounted before submission to SQA. You cannot submit sketchbooks, as work is hung up for marking.

Your teacher will be able to advise you on suitable formats for your portfolios.

Restrictions:

  • Each portfolio can contain a maximum of three A2 sheets or the equivalent area.
  • The largest size of individual sheet you can submit is A1.
  • You do not need to use the maximum size if your work takes up less space.
A series of possible ways to present your portfolio on mounting sheets

Tips:

  • Try different layouts before making your mind up - lay out your work and check that the arrangement is effectivebeforesticking it down permanently.
  • Each piece of work should occupy its own space - do not overlap important work or include fold out sections.

Remember:

  • Include your expressive theme, design brief and your evaluation on the first sheet of each portfolio.
  • Securely attach your work to the mounting sheets.
  • Make sure the correct labels are stuck on to the back of each sheet - SQA supply labels with your candidate details.
  • Three-dimensional work being submitted should also be labelled. If it is fragile or too heavy/large to transport, include good quality photographs of the work taken from different viewpoints instead.
  • Portfolios can be landscape, portrait or a combination of both formats.
  • The sheets for each portfolio must be taped together before submission.
