Amazing weather continues

The very mild weather continues. Last night the stars blazed overhead, yet it was warm enough to be out in shirtsleeves. The air was very still and we could hear the seals singing out at Eileanan a' Bhaigh. The outermost of the three, Eilean Mor a' Bhaigh can just be seen here. It has been an amazing year for rowan berries. Rowan trees as well as aspen, birch, willow and honeysuckle grow wherever grazing animals cannot reach them. The midges are few now but there are still one or two huge dragonflies patrolling about whenever the sun comes out.

Indeed it is mild - and moist. As a result typical of what we have had frequently this summer - fog (see webcam at www.northisles-weather.co.uk) However we have had some excellent days - last Saturday was brilliant 10.5 hours sunshine here on Fair Isle. The midges have been bad here this summer. Until a few years ago they were almost non-existent but now - can be appalling. Must be global warming and they are moving north looking for cooler, damper conditions!

Colors, composition - picture 2 (the one below) are wonderful. I assume the red spots on the small tree/bush to the side of the rock in the foreground are berries, ... or are they seedpods?

Beautiful photographs, You're lucky with the midges, they're ferocious here!

mjc - the red things are rowan berries. Don't know if you have them there. No bears here to eat them but they keep the wee birds going for a while.

Missing Skye so badly here in hot and humid Hong Kong. It is great to see the pictures and remember the rowan - it was wonderful this year. Great photos - thanks
