Wai (New Zealand)

nominated by Kevin Wiremu, London:
'I am a London-born Maori. I am very interested in world music, and being aquainted with music from New Zealand, and Maori music in particular, I am pleased, impressed and pleasantly surprised to see this upturn in a musical tradition that until the hit "Poi e", had failed to put itself in the world public eye. It can now be placed on a par with other world greats, and rightfully claim its deserved position, and hopefully draw attention to our rich Maori culture in all its forms.'

Nick Fenney, Gloucestershire:
'cos the dissibilant 'rap' and the/
poilyrhythmic syncopated beat/
of the Maoris Mina and Maaka/
is choreographed for size 12 feet.'

Erina Hurihanganui, Wellington, New Zealand:
'A good progression for Maori music in New Zealand.'
