Janet
Janet's interiors style is up-cycled, glamorous vintage chic. Re-purposing vintage artifacts, like French vintage beds, Armoires and unloved pieces of furniture and re-inventing them.
1. Who is your style hero?
Too many style heroes to pin point one. I like Jonathan Adler, Tricia Guild, Abigail Ahern and Suzy Hoodless from the interior design world.
2. If you had an unlimited budget to spend on your home what improvements would you make?
I would sell up and buy a Georgian wreck and renovate top to bottom. Sourcing original and usual pieces, steeped in history and form, bringing the house back into the 21st Century.
3. Would you have the room you created in your own home?
Yes, both of the rooms I created for Yvonne, Dan and Ryan I would absolutely have in my home.
4. What did you learn from taking part in ‘Your ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ In Their Hands’?
Since, Your ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ In Their Hands, I have learnt that my design ideas, design skills and creativity are heading in the right direction and that I should have confidence and belief in my ability and creativity.
5. What is your golden rule when it comes to interior design?
My golden rule is optimising the functionality, space, light and any original features present. Enhancing usage of space is also vital. Ensuring comfort, style and form are happily married together to meet a client's requirements and without compromise.
6. What is your DIY tool that you just can’t live without?
The DIY tool that I can't live without is my own visualisation.
7. What is your biggest DIY achievement?
A complete 21-bedroom hotel renovation and refurbishment. Using clever and innovative up cycling tricks; sourcing from vintage fairs, car boot sales, skips and charity shops in the UK and overseas. Sourcing damaged bankrupt trade stock, repairing, repurposing and reinventing. Lots of energy, imagination and lots and lots of hard work!
8. What is your biggest DIY disaster?
To date I have no DIY disasters. I’m too well organised and too much of an interior design OCD freak for that.
9. If you could design a room in any building in the world, what room would you design and why?
I would love to take on a complete wreck, for total restoration and renovation. Some beautiful period building, like a redundant Georgian or Neo Classical Manor House.
