Your Story: Nanny at 21 years old, for James Logan |
|
The food we ate was easy to cook, meat, potatoes and vegetables. We had mince, steak and kidney, chops sausages, liver and a joint of meat on Sundays. We ate lots of mashed potatoes and chips and vegetables, and Yorkshire puddings on Sundays For pudding we had rice pudding, apple pie and custard, jelly and custard, tinned fruit and cream or ice cream. Your dad would get sweets like dolly mixtures or jelly sweets or chocolate. We sometimes had some biscuits but nearly every mam, baked cakes and scones and apple pies and sausage rolls and jam tarts. A big treat would be fish and chips on Good Friday.
There were comics and magazines in 1963 but your dad was too young for comics like the Beano and Dandy, Wizard and Eagle but I liked the Woman and Woman's Own magazines. Your dad had a rabbit in a hutch in the backyard, and a sandpit which was a big square box with a lid on. He played with cars and had lot of matchbox cars and a wooden garage; he also had a wooden fort and soldiers.
