One star
- All bedrooms with ensuite or private facilities
- Registered guests have access to hotel at all times
- Dining room/restaurant serving a cooked breakfast seven days a week
- Staff available during the day and in the evening
- Designated reception area
- Hotel opened seven days a week during operating season
Two star
In addition to all points for one star:
- Dining room/restaurant serving an evening meal seven days a week
Three star
In addition to all points for two star:
- Provision of room service, including hot and cold snacks, both daytime and evening
- Access to all parts of hotel without use of a key
- All bedrooms with ensuite facilities
Four star
In addition to all points for three star:
- Duty staff operating hotel 24 hours
- 24-hour room service including a cooked breakfast
- Table service at breakfast
- Offering guests luggage assistance
- At least one restaurant opened to residents and non-residents for breakfast and dinner, seven days a week
- Thermostatically controlled showers
- Half of all bedrooms should contain a bath
Five star
In addition to all points for four star:
- Hotel in operation 365 days a year
- Valet parking
- Escort to bedrooms
- Table service in bars and lounges in hotel
- 24-hour room service
- Full afternoon tea available
- All bedrooms with ensuite contain bath and thermostatically controlled showers
- Additional facilities e.g. leisure, business
- Permanent luxury suites available
- Public areas sufficient in size to ensure generous personal space
