The Prizes
For winning their respective Category Final, each of the five Grand Finalists receive £2000. In addition, each Grand Finalist wins the opportunity to give a lunchtime recital at Wigmore Hall in autumn 2008 as a result of support from the Tabor Foundation.
The overal winner carries away the title of ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Young Musician of the Year 2008 plus a Travel Award to promote his/her studies.
The Walter Todds Bursary
In memory of the late Walter Todds, founder of ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Young Musician of the Year, a total bursary of £1000 will be allocated at the discretion of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ to the performer or performers who do not reach the Grand Final but who show great promise.
The Tabor Award for Promising Talent
An award of £2000 to one competitor will be made at the discretion of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ in order to help with the costs of special tuition. It is the hope of the Tabor Foundation that this award will enable the competitor to achieve his/her potential.
Eurovision Young Musician 2008
³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Young Musician of the Year has, in previous years, sent a representative to the Eurovision Young Musician competition which in 2008 will again form part of the Vienna Festival. As the Eurovision competition is taking place on almost identical dates to ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Young Musician, Philip Achille who competed in the 2006 ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Young Musician of the Year on Chromatic Harmonica will be representing the UK.
