What a day of County Championship cricket we've enjoyed, a reminder of why we all love this old competition so much - and it's been a particularly memorable day for Division One leaders Surrey.

They fought from behind to achieve the second largest fourth-innings run chase in Championship history by knocking off 501 as Dom Sibley also broke records of a slower kind with his patiently-crafted 140.

We also enjoyed two thrilling finales in Division Two where Leicestershire beat Gloucestershire and all four outcomes were possible heading into the final few balls of Sussex's barnstormer with Worcestershire.

That's all from us today but make sure you head right back to the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Sport cricket homepage on Friday where we'll have coverage of the first Test of the Ashes plus a number of T20 Blast games in the evening.

Leicestershire and Yorkshire have been the big winners in Division Two.

Yorkshire claimed a first Championship victory in more than a year by beating fellow winless side Derbyshire in an exciting finish.

Leicestershire claimed a late win at Gloucestershire to go third but Durham remain top after their high-scoring draw with Glamorgan.

Surrey chase 501 to beat Kent

Dom Sibley has been speaking to ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio London about Surrey's amazing run chase at Canterbury:

"To chase that many and to win the game, the boys are buzzing and it's great to stay at the top of the table.

"Even when we were set 501 it didn't feel like it was out of our possibilities as a side - all the conversations were extremely positive yesterday and overnight.

On his unbeaten 140 after compiling the slowest County Championship century in history:

"It was just about occupying the crease. I wasn't in any rush and I didn't need to be - and obviously it helps when Smithy [Jamie Smith] comes and plays an innings like that, it was one of the best knocks I've ever seen from the other end, the striking and the shot-making was unbelievable - same with Foakesy today.

"I was just trying to play that anchor role for the knock and the two lads beside me were unbelievable so credit to them.

"That was my first century for Surrey since I was at school so it meant a lot to me - it's been weighing on my mind a little bit and I'm pleased to help the boys get a win."

Well, that comeback win has really boosted Surrey's chances of retaining their Division One title.

They looked in danger of being dragged back towards the chasing pack when they were set 501 to win by Kent but that amazing run chase moves them 32 points clear at the top of the table.

They benefitted from Warwickshire's draw with Notts and Hampshire's defeat by Lancashire.

At the foot of the table, Kent's failure to turn that fantastic position against Surrey into victory leaves them well in trouble after just one win so far this summer.

  17. Worcs need 16 off 12 ballspublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Sussex v Worcs 370-6 (target 386)

Worcestershire just can't find the boundary.

Nathan McAndrew keeps things really tight and concedes three singles and a leg-bye off his 15th over.

16 needed off two overs with plenty of men on the boundary. Nailbiting stuff.

    Sussex v Worcs 366-6 (target 386)

It's going down to the wire.

  19. LEICESTERSHIRE BEAT GLOUCESTERSHIRE BY FIVE WICKETSpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Glos 368 & 202 v Leics 350 & 221-5

Colin Ackermann nudges a single into the covers and the winning run for Leicestershire!

They were set 221 in 47 overs and have got home fairly comfortably in the Bristol sunshine with five overs to spare.

Rehan Ahmed, 71 from 76 balls, and Ackermann, who finishes unbeaten on 78, see the Foxes to their second win of the season to get right back in the promotion race.

Gloucestershire felt they needed to force a first victory of the year but in these conditions, it was highly unlikely they could take another 20 wickets this afternoon.

Without the rain on day one they may have had the time to build a better second innings.

A very similar thing happened to Leicestershire here in 2021, when they lost in the final session.

  20. Worcs need 24 off 24 ballspublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 14 June 2023

    Sussex v Worcs 362-6 (target 386)

That's a big boundary for Worcestershire to end the over.

Nathan McAndrew strays leg-side and Azhar Ali clips him fine.

    Azhar is up to 93.
