Running with lambs

We had a busy weekend. My Japanese friend family visited us. They live in London and husband is an american, wife is japanese and 2 year old boy. same age of my son.
Last year we had some japanese frends came over and stay, most of from Japan. a person who stayed here, she is a writer, always write about UK. Her new book will publish next year and she will write about here. I'm look forward to read that book.
anyway, It is very hard to find japanese frends here. According to Japanese Embassy in Edinburgh only 1 japanese in Argyll and Bute. Yes, me........
oh dear.
so after I started live here, tried to find japanese friends and used website called worldwide neighbors, easy to registerd and I could manage to find some japanese friends all UK.
It's getting better to find friends, new website called MIXI is very good for japanese, especiall japanese live in not Japan. This story will tell you later.
I must tell you about last weekend. ....
I usually speak Japanese with my son. He does not speak japanese, but I still try to speak japanese always. I know so many times people feel strange.... never mind. I'm growing up with this strange language.
My friend's husband speak japanese too. so my son feels something different... especiall my friend boy speaks japanese too.
I think he felt something.....
I speak japanese, my son's reply always english, but since last weekend, he sometimes speak japanese. OHHHHHHH..... It's a miracle.
If you know my son and he says something, it might japanese. hahaha.
ex. morning = ohayo... He already said to residents in Toberonochy, some people felt what??? hahaha.
anyway 2 boys had great time and they are like lambs. Running, Running, Running.
We were really enjoyed and wether were excellent.
Deer came to see us. hahaha.

I don't know whether you plan to stay forever in the islands (or UK). If you are, I would concentrate on making local friends. Why move, if you plan to hang on to the past? Get involved in local activities: and if you have spare time, get even more involved.

I nknow how you feel about being the only person of your nationality-when I arrived in this area(1984),i was the only scot in my last village and the only brit in this one-ok having been in france since 1976, i am fluent with my french-but now there are expats all around-its like the norman invasion but in the opposite way!!

Hi Jill, yes, it was a lucky to get the picture of the deer! I tried so many times....oh dear!! Hi mjc, hahaha, Don't worry, I already have so many friends scots, english, french, thai and chinese. but, I feel something different, because most of people do not know japanese culture, life style, etc. If you live in japan alone, you might feel same as me. Hi Carol, Thank you for understand me. especially you had a same situation of your life.

Living in a foreign country and speaking a foreign language 24/7 can be a real strain, especially at first. You are doing really well, OG, and things can only improve for you from here on. Your little boy will be a good source of contacts for you as he gets older, too. Good luck!

Nah, OG. Wherever I am, I stick with the locals, familiarizing myself with the unknown and unwashed. At uni., for example, I could not be dragged, dead or alive, into the International Students Club (they did not serve Yorkshire home pickled onions, for one). Stick with the locals and be amazed. Nothing new with the folks back home. Discovery is the name of the (at least "my") game.

Hi Duncan, you lived in Luing long time ago. ... I started live here 2002 Jan. I do not know how changed here. but resident changed lots lots lots lots. I'm taking photos every day, always with my fav camera (my husband feels it spoiled myself.... never mind.) When I didn't have any camera with me, I missed so many nice photos. oh dear. I will try to show many photos. I would like to show how beautiful island here....
