Good luck with your quest to identify the flower. I have no idea what it is.

I don't know this flower, but why let a minor detail like that get in the way :-) ? It has the look of a type of orchid, both in the flower itself and also in the way it grows on the stem.

thanks Carol, Jill nothing is in the way, I am just curious to learn the names of plants, I think the flower (not the plant) is closest to a delphinium but it isn't a delphinium, I see what you mean re the wild orchid but it is much larger it is a good 3 foot plus, sorry I realize I should have given size and put a ruler next to the leaves like mm does with the rocks,

I thought it was a mallow until I saw the leaves...or a white variation on the evening primrose...

I just found your blog and have really enjoyed reading about your experiments with embroidery and art, which pretty much parallel my own. And your photos are beautiful---thanks for sharing them! I wonder if you can help me on a wee point of cultural history! For a novel I'm writing, I'm trying to find some info on the traditional method of processing sheep's wool in the islands. Specifically, I want to know if the fleece was washed by hand, before it was carded and spun, and if so how and where was the washing done? Or if not, was it just carded as is, from the sheep's back? If you have any knowledge on this or can point me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful. Thanks again for a lovely blog! My email: hurricanecate AT yahoo DOT com
