A walk in the Lews Castle grounds

I met a friend last week and we had a lovely walk in the castle grounds, Stornoway, I took my camera with me,

Arghh.. Just when I was starting to come to terms with not having fox gloves, hollyhocks, clematis, Tree's, violets in the garden ever at all here, off she goes & taunts me. Ner mind, me broad beans are doing me proud I'll just have to be content with that. Im stitching a heavily textured quilt which im not going to show you till its done & hanging...

Nice pics., IT. Prompted me to google Lewis Castle and Stornoway. Interesting. I was surprised to note that Nic. Inst. comprises more than 1/10 of the population of Stornoway. Are most of them boarders?

Angela you are a tease, I have been wondering why you hadn't posted anything textile for ages, the trees and such are just in Stornoway Lord Leverhume (sp) had trees planted in the castle grounds other wise zilch, Barney choughs have red beaks not orange ones and are much larger sorry you will have to take my word it is blackbird/thrush size, mjc they board at home as far as I know, never heard any mention of boarders at the nic, there are a lot of young people on Lewis,

The lichen is beautiful - lovely colours and the "folds of fabric" are amazing too.

Dog violets woefully named but truly beautiful harbingers of spring...all we need now are a few windflowers. No 4 in the wildflowers - could it be a spurge or spurry?
